“Convenient, though noisy, locale”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

I stayed here during a recent trip to Philadelphia to attend a sporting event. The property is situated right next to I-95, which made it a convenient cab ride south to the sports complex. But it did make for a rather noisy night, as I had a room with a view of the freeway.

There is a free shuttle that can take guests into the historic district, but on the 2nd day I was there I got tired of waiting for the driver so I walked the five or six blocks into town.

Staff was very friendly and the room was clean. Breakfast in the morning was what you'd expect.

Room Tip: Rooms on the river side are quieter, but you're still next to a major highway.

Had a nice stay here. Staff was upbeat, helpful and friendly! Rooms, linens, common areas were very clean. You can definetly tell they updated since changing hands to Holiday Inn Express. I only say location isn't great because I am used to staying in center cilty to walk out to gayboorhood and shopping. Great option if spending lots of time in Old City! Easy access to highways as well.

Nicely redone but won't last long. Cleaning staff does little both in the room, halls and eating area. Waited three days for a box of Kleenex in our Room-was told twice by 2 staff that there was none in the hotel. Came into the room while staff was cleaning the bathroom floor with a towel wrapped on a broom. Told her the beds didn't need to be made but could she vacuum as the floor was dirty since the time we checked in. She started sweeping it with her broom towel contraption and I asked if they didn't have a vacuum. She said she didn't know where to find it. In the 3 days we were there we never saw any indication our room was ever vacuumed and it was dirty to start. Breakfast was a disaster each morning- dirty tables, food out. There doesn't seem to be enough staff or maybe they just don't care. Location is awkward- not easily walkable to sites. Would not stay again.

Room Tip: Noise on both sides-bring earplugs.

This is our first stay here. I am writing this review still in the hotel so wrong everything went with our stay.
POSITIVE: resent poorly made renovation.
NEGATIVE:
a) Location is not close to the most of attractions, dingy, dirty even around the hotel, VERY noisy from both sides of the hotel because of major roads, highways and trains running over the bridge right next to the hotel.
b) Front desk (as well as housekeeping) staff is understaffed and SLOW. We arrived at 10:30am registered ourselves spending at least 20 mins at the FD, but was told the room is not ready (which was OK with us). what wasn't OK is spending another 1/2 hour in line of the other people arriving at 3:30pm just to get the keys.
c) In the room we've discovered dirty floors, hair on the sheets and pillows, and on one of them signs of the dried up discharge of the saliva or some other bodily liquids, hair on the bathroom floor and in the tub. We asked the maid to change our linens and cleaned up the bathroom ourselves because we looked in the tub only in the morning. So probably except of making up beds the housekeeping does nothing else
d) We wanted to print out directions and from 2 printers one was out of order and another was connected to computer that was used by another traveler. We asked for help and received none.
e) At 8am we went for breakfast. The area was overcrowded, the food was mostly gone and was'n replenished in timely manor, so we waited for a while and left taking just yogurt.
f) The went in our bathroom worked so loud that if you use it during the night the other person in the room wakes up.
g) The hallways were dirty at any time of the day, as well as the lines were long at the front desk at any point we came or go.
I could go on and on but I guess you get the picture. So needless to say this is our first and last visit to this dump.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

It is my understanding that the hotel at 100 N Chris Columbus Blvd, Philadelphia, became Holiday Inn Express Philadelphia E – Penns Landing on or about March 1, 2013 having formerly been a Comfort Inn.

Upon arriving in Philadelphia by plane, I called the hotel to determine the best way to get from the airport to the hotel. I was advised of using both SEPTA (rail and subway) or Lady Liberty Shuttle. Lady Liberty is a shuttle serviced used by several Philadelphia hotels which conveniently picks up guests at airport Ground Transportation and delivers them to their respective hotel for $10. This was the route we used and found it to be most convenient. For those driving, the hotel has parking for a surcharge. Upon arrival at the hotel, we were greeted by a warm, burning fireplace, a lovely open lounge, and a very friendly and helpful young woman at the front desk. Further, we were about two hours early for check in but she offered to check us in immediately. Our room was on the 7th floor on the backside of the hotel right up against I95. Rooms on this side of the hotel, offer a not-so-spectacular view into historic Philadelphia and are noisy due to the interstate. However, we found neither to be troublesome. The hotel is in very good condition; the rooms are large, nicely appointed, and include free Wi-Fi, flat-panel cable equipped TV, coffeemakers, hairdryers, irons and ironing boards. There is a business center available to guests and a very ample, buffet breakfast is included.

The hotel is conveniently located for exploring historic Philadelphia and as far as your legs can carry you. There is a free house shuttle that will take you to or pick you up from any location within two miles of the hotel after 4 pm with just a phone call to the driver. If one is walking to Old City, there are two easy ways to cross I95. By walking south to Market Street, one can cross over the interstate via the Market Street Bridge. This is also the location of the nearest subway station. The second way is to walk through the parking lot on the backside of the hotel going north to Race Street; here you can cross under the interstate. Once you are on the other side of I95, you are near Elfreth’s Alley, Betsy Ross house, Christ Church, Independence Hall and Liberty Bell Center, Visitor’s Center, US Mint, and many other attractions. Here you will also find a number of restaurants and other amentities. The walk back at night is safe and offers a beautiful view of the Ben Franklin Bridge which sits almost atop the hotel. All of the above mentioned attractions are within a mile or less of the hotel. The Convention Center is about 1.5 miles. Within two miles, you will find the incredible Town Hall, Franklin Institute, Rittenhouse Square, Logan Square/Circle, China Town, and Reading Railroad to name a few.

We were so pleased with the price, service, and location of this hotel that we would definitely seek it out on another Philly visit.

Room Tip: One might have a quieter room on the street side of the hotel. A room facing the Ben Franklin Bridg...
