“World class museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

I recently came back from Europe where I visited two very famous museums. The Philadelphia Museum of Art matches them in every category. Superb collections, excellent presentations and displays are in every gallery room. The art elite sneer about the Rocky movie references, but I think it did quite a bit to draw visitors to Philadelphia. So, after you run up the steps and wave your arms in victory, keep on going and visit a real winner - the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

“Nice Discovery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2014

Like many we were lured in by the "Rocky" staircase out front but due to the freezing cold we were lured in with our children 6 and 13 and what a nice surprise. The museum has a very nice collection of impressionists, including a version of Van Goh's Sunflowers, and a Monet Waterlilies but what really impressed us were the indoor room recreations upstairs. The Japanese Tea House as wlel as the rooms dfrom the Gothic castles were just amazing and really interesting for the younger set. Highly recommend a visit.

“"Hey Rocky, you didn't prepare me for this!"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2014

This is an amazing museum. While I am only an amateur when it comes to museums, this place stacks up against any other museum I have seen in the U.S. or Europe. I knew this was a good museum, but had no idea what a treasure it was. Here are a few points....

1. The place is huge. There is a vast display of art from all over the world. There are known works that you will recognize from Art Appreciation!
2. The museum is unassuming. Some museums seem snobbish or self-important. This place simply IS important. You quickly find yourself amongst Chegalls, Monets, or Picassos and never heard the fanfare of trumpets.
3. The collection of Pennsylvania furniture, glassware, and crafts from the 17th-19th centuries is a treasure. Much of the highly sought after antique furniture produced in the U.S. before the Civil (and even Revolutionary) War came from Pennsylvania. It is displayed magnificently here.
4. The museum has sections that are completely designed to look like a Japanese garden or medieval castle in order to showcase art from respective periods and places. I found this to be quite impressive and helpful for making the place that much more interesting to kids and casual museum goers.
5. With your ticket, you can go on the same day to the nearby Rodin museum for free.
6. The view of the city from the top of the steps (the ones Rocky ran up) is beautiful.

Definitely go here when you are in Philadelphia.

“Not to be missed”

Spend a day and see one of the great art museums of America. Beautiful 19th century French collection. Great shops and cafes.
