We arrived at the Sofitel on Saturday afternoon at about 1:00 and were told that check-in was not until 3:00. They would not allow us to check-in early, as no rooms were ready. But they did offer to hold our bags and called us as soon as a room was ready (at approximately 2:30). When we did check-in, I received an envelope with a Sofitel paper printout listing our roomrate correctly as $180.00/night.
We found our room to be in good condition. The decor was lovely, and the bed was very comfortable and lived up to its rave reviews. However, the pillows on the bed were a little ragged and stained and probably should have been replaced. The bathroom was also clean and spacious, but as soon as we ran the shower it backed up and would not drain properly. Our call to guest services/maintenance was responded to promptly.
Our major problems with the hotel did not begin until checkout, but they are so serious as to ruin the whole experience. Upon checkout, I received a bill listing the roomrate as $195.00/night, despite the printout at check-in listing the correct rate of $180.00. When I mentioned this to the front desk clerk, he was extremely rude and unhelpful. He essentially brushed me off, told me the rate had always been the same, and said I could fax the hotel proof of the difference in rates when I returned home. He made me feel that I was either crazy or lying about the incorrect rate!
Things went from bad to worse upon our return home. When I checked my bank account, I found that the Sofitel had already charged my credit card for $650.00 and were still not finished charging me. (Please explain to me how 2 nights at $180.00 and one in-room movie at $15.00 amounts to $650.00). When the Sofitel finishes charging my card, they will have charged me over $1000! I spent over 2 hours on the phone with Sofitel front desk clerks, guest relations/services managers - even the accounting department. The issue still has not been resolved, and I am still incredibly stressed over the situation.
We will certainly choose a different hotel the next time we are in Philadelphia.
We spent a nice weekend at the Sofitel is Philly. I arranged this stay thorough the gophila.com website and it is buy one night get one free, plus free parking on both nights ($60.00 value). It is a decent deal, especially for our King Suite.
The Suite was very nice. The bathroom is perfect; clean, large and luxurious. Separate tub and shower.
The room was nice. Modern decor. I would not say that is is super extravagent, but much above average. The bed is absolutely fantastic and linens are to die for. (If you love a soft bed, this is the one for you. I prefer a harder bed, but no complaints because the quality was so high!)
You will see many reviews referring to the quality of service. I cannot say that I encountered any thing extra special, but we stayed inour room much of the time (our first time away from our baby, so we were all about relaxing).
Room service was prompt and courteous. The food was excellent. We had room service dinner and breakfast and both were very good for room service food.
The Sofitel is located in a neat part of the city. Many of the great restaurants are within a few blocks on Walnut St., including Le Bec Fin and Alma de Cuba. There is great shopping near by and the Kimmel Center is closer (we took a nice walk on Sat.)
We had an absolutely wonderful meal at Alma de Cuba. I highly recommend this place!
All in all, this is the nicest place I have stayed in the city and look forward to returning!
I truly loved this hotel. It has a wonderful vibe and was very comfortable, and the staff was helpful and efficient. At first glance around the lobby, I thought it was disappointingly small and lackluster. But it turned out to be comfortable and elegant, and a wonderful place to be, conveying private luxury and liveliness at the same time. The room was comfortable with the most luxurious bedding I've had in any hotel, and the bathroom included an upscale glass shower and slate countertops. One of the best, if not the best luxury hotel I've ever stayed in. I would certainly choose Sofitel in the future. An amazing price for the value.
We had a quick one-night stay at the Sofitel Philadelphia this past weekend. Check-in was fast, easy, and pleasant. Ditto for checkout. Our room was modern (but thankfully not ultramodern) and tasteful, and the bed was quite comfortable. We didn't stay long enough to check out the gym, bar, etc., but our short stay was nice. I would stay here again.
