“The Sofitel....worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2005

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Sofitel this past weekend (9/24/05)
and here are what we found to be the good and bad points:

The bed....this was the most comfortable beds that I have ever slept in. My bed at home is super comfortable, and I have stayed at high level hotels all around the world, and none have had a more incredible bed. I literally didn't want to get out of bed to go see the city. :-)

Location: Very good, close to the Mutter Museum and a 5 minute drive to the best cheesesteaks in the city. (Jim's steaks)

The staff: Overall, they were quite unfriendly. The room service operator hung up oon me when I called to ask why the food wasn't here after an hour. The front desk staff was ok, but the Valet attendent (at night) was also very gruff. A few staff members were nice, but I got the feeling that these people just didn't want to be there.

Despite that, I would still stay there again because of the lovely rooms and location.

I've previously stayed in other Center City hotels in Philadelphia, and this was by far the best. The room was extremely comfortable and spacious, and - unlike many hotel rooms - was very well lit, with a comfortable seating area, an exceptionally comfortable bed, and an immaculate bathroom. Service was good for the most part (particularly room service, which arrived right on time with my breakfast each morning), with my only complaint being that certain members of the front desk staff could have been a bit more cordial.

The hotel's location is excellent as well. Walnut Street shopping is just a short block away, and there are many excellent restaurants and cafes well within walking distance.

We stayed for 5 days over labor day weekend. We asked for a quiet room on a high floor-they gave us the top floor (14th) and I have to say it was amazingly quiet for a city hotel. NO NOISE from neighboring rooms. We are very picky about noise in hotel rooms, and we could find no fault with this hotel. Very minor complaints: slight musty smell to comforter the first 3 nights--then they must have changed it, because the smell was gone. Housekeeping did not replace toiletries every day--annoying that we had to ask for shampoo and soap when it ran out. Did not expect this from a top hotel. They left only 1 bottle of bottled water at turn down time--why only 1, when there were two people staying in the room. turn down was erractic--maybe 3 out of 5 nights. Although we loved the sofitel, next time I would choose to stay in the historic area near the Delaware river--loved the feel of that area. If the sofitel were located there it would be perfection for us!

Lovely room. The bed was enough to make you miss work for a week. Very clean and sanitized bathroom. Loved the Glass shower (no tacky shower curtain).

I recently spent two nights (Aug 26/27, 2005) at the Sofitel in Philadelphia. We were there for my sister's bridal shower and upon check-in asked for adjoining rooms or to be as close as possible. As it turns out, they suggested we do a junior suite and king room which was perfect!! The rooms were very spacious and extremly comformtable...very nice touches, gorgeous bathroom, etc. Upgrading to a junior suite was a minimal increase and I would recommend that to anyone since it was more than worth it. Lastly, the staff really went out of their way to be helpful and delivered on two unusual requests!

The hotel is located 2 blocks from Market Street. There is plently of shopping nearby (Rittenhouse Sq, Liberty Mall)....and easy access to major highways in and out of the city. We are planning a reunion next Aug just to go back to that hotel!!

We had our wedding at the sofitel. The whole weekend went by so smoothly thanks to the hotel staff. The guest raved about the hotel's location and service.

Only inconvienence was checking out on sunday. Being in the heart of center city, there is a bottle neck at the valet parking around 11-12 o'clock. If you need to get out of town quickly and you have a car, do it well before the check out time rush.

Stayed overnight with another couple to attend a concert in the city. Absolutely perfect! Paid $149.00 per room when the 4 seasons would have been more than double this. The bed was very comfortable and the staff was was extremely polite. When I return to Philly I will be staying here again.
