Stayed four nights at the Sofitel. Highlights include:

Excellent location
Spotless rooms
Good variety of restaurants all within walking distance
The best exercise room we have ever used (all exercise machines were new and had personal TV's & headphones, with plenty of towels)

The room's windows could do with some more soundproofing as this was their only downside.

Valet parking was quick in retrieving our car at check out 15min (Monday).

All in all a bit of a "splurge" but worth it.

The Sofitel Philadelphia is a beautiful modern hotel with very friendly staff. Located in downtown Philadelphia close to Market and 17th st. The rooms are gorgeous, each adorned with many modern unique pieces of art which are used light centerpieces at the top of each headboard. The beds in these rooms are absolutely heavenly. Contrary to the norm of having just a down comforter, these beds have down pillow-tops, down pillows and luxurious sheets. This is definitely one of the most lavish beds that I have had the pleasure of sleeping in. --- when you order a wake up call, you are greeted with “Time to wake up, your bed will miss you as much as you miss it. Maybe you should stop by for this afternoon for a Nap” The message couldn’t be more right, as you are trying to pull yourself from the beds oh-so-comfortable grip. Bathroom has double French doors, a deep tub as well as a separate glass shower. Staff is helpful and at every chance they greet you with native French sayings… which is corresponding with its flagships native land. The bar area is very active, with great food that is priced accordingly to the scale of the hotel-- The hotel is in a great location, for either business travel or pleasure.

We stayed here after the sofitel in NYC. While the hotel was not nearly as nice or as spacious as the one in NYC, we thought it was again a great value. The room was nice enough although it was quite obvious it was a refurb of an older hotel and the refurb wasn't done as nice as it could have been. Still, the location is fantastic. We took the bus, subway or walked everywhere.

The room was clean and was big enough for my wife, 3 year old, and 7 month old to be in for 3 nights without much distress. The staff were all nice and the meal we had downstairs was decent enough. I think if you are visiting Philly and want a central hotel at a great value, this is your place.

I stayed at this hotel for business. I stayed here with other collegues to do some filming for a television show. We had to film at night so our schedules were flipped around.

First off, the free internet in my room never worked. I've worked at hotels before and I know when I see 3 cords on the floor, that this room has an ongoing problem. After arriving late and informing the front desk, they told me they would send someone up to the room. It never happened. So I talked to the front desk again. They said that if I go up to my room they would send someone up. I informed her that I work nights and had to leave soon. She stated that I had to be in the room for the maintenance person to know if the internet was working. (A four star hotel can't supply their maintenance department with a cheap laptop to check on the internet? Unacceptable!) And then she stated that the Maintenance crew doesn't work beyond 11:00 PM (Not unusual). She then states that I could pay 7.99 a day for their T-Mobile Wireless! I'm on business. I can't put internet on my expense account. HERE IS THE SOLUTION. COMP ME THE WIRELESS INTERNET! I don't care why it's not working. You advertised free internet in the rooms. I expect free internet.

Second the service here is slow and rude. I arrived late at night once after a long day of shooting with gear. I could not find a valet or bellman, so I grabbed the luggage cart and started up to my room. I had to leave my keys for valet at front desk. It was then that the night valet / bellmen appeared from the behind the front desk. He then wanted to push my cart the last half of the trip to my room. When I told him I was all set, he copped an attitute. Look, I'm tired after a long day of work. I wasn't happy to find no one attending the valet area. I didn't want to grab a cart and load it up and push it into the lobby. And after all of that I'm not going to tip you! Another time I was expecting a FedEx package that I needed to bring with me to set. When it arrived with my name on it, did someone call my room and ask if I was expecting a package? No. When I inquired if the package arrived at the front desk, they did call down to security who was going to bring the package to me. I went up to my room and waited 45 minutes for it. So much for fast service! I had to go down to the concierge and demand they bring it to me. She did so and was very pleasant, but overall the service was snotty, rude, and always had a hand out.

The best part of the stay was the housekeeping. The rooms and the hallways, etc. were always clean and the staff was very pleasant. That is why it is a 2 star review and not 1 star.

I would not stay here again until service improves. I worked for hotels for 10 years. I can tell you the difference between a 3 star and 4 star hotels is service. Right now, the service sucks. Save you money and stay somewhere else.

The one pleasant staff person in this hotel the weekend of 06/09 was the housekeeper. Every other staff person, from the bellhop to the bartender, treated us with indifference boardering on rudeness. Having stayed at many Sofitels around the country, I was amazed at how poorly the service at this one compares to every other one at which I have stayed. Also, in the so-called "business center," the printer was broken and the Internet connection was so slow I was wondering if it was dial-up. I've had better service and Internet access at Ramada!

Other than the service, everything about this hotel is great. The location, the cushy beds, the lovely bathroom and bath products are all very nice.
