“Great place to stay and visit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

We loved the Penns View for many reasons. Great location, 1/2 block to subway, great historical area and it had the charm we were looking for. Quaint and clean place. Great free breakfast too. The only downfall is it can be a bit loud with the freeway nearby, but we would stay there next time we go and we will go to Philly again! We loved it, clean, easy to grt around and lots to do and see. Yes, the cheese steaks were amazing!

My wife and I recently spent two nights here. Everything was as expected, clean and convenient with parking next door. The location is great and we walked to everything we wanted to see in the historic area. My only complaint is that I-95 is very close and we are not city people, so it seemed a little noisy at some times, but the room heating and cooling unit fan was able to muffle the occasional loud truck noise. The breakfast was better than the average "free" hotel one. The Italian restaurant was excellent with a spectacular wine list. It's not every morning that your view out the window is a WWII battle ship! Again, great location!

We booked this hotel based on the reviews on tripadvisor - it did not disappoint! Charming, great location, wonderful service. We arrived around 11pm and the gentleman at the front desk was friendly and helpful. We booked 2 rooms and one was slightly larger than the other but both were adorable and comfortable with little balconies facing the front of the building. Breakfast is included and is very varied - breads, fruit, waffles, eggs, cereals, coffee, OJ. WiFi is free just ask the front desk for the code.

The location is good and although it's close to I95 the noise did not bother us. The inn is about 4 blocks from the historic sites - you could be closer but then you miss out on the walk thru the charming neighborhood. Check out Shane's confectionary on Market St. It's an old-fashioned candy shop that completely transports you to a bygone era.

We would recommend this hotel and would stay here again without hesitation.

Stayed here with my large family for Spring Break. Great hotel. Elegant and historic. Breakfast was great. The staff was tremendous - most especially Antonio who took care of our every need, and even offered to make himself available on his day off. Great views of the Ben Franklin Bridge, and awesome location in the Old City. Easy walk to the main tourist attractions. Loved it, and wouldn't stay anywhere else on future trips to Philly.

We caught up with friends in Philadelphia for the weekend and wanted a hotel that was reasonable and close to the historic attractions. Penn's View met those expectations. The location was close to the river and easy walking distance to Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. Even as tourists well over age 50, we found the walk to the Reading Terminal very easy. The hotel was clean and charming. The rooms were cozy and small, however, and I would not recommend it for children. Breakfast was included and I would describe it as very average. It was very crowded at times. Parking is adjacent to the hotel and very convenient.

We took a family trip to Philadelphia (all adults), and we found this hotel to be in an easy to find, safe location. When we travel, we typically look for places that have an included breakfast. We find that it helps get us up and going before sightseeing, etc. their included breakfast was nice. The liberty bell pancakes were a cute touch. We also had a rental car, and wanted a location that had easy parking access, which this hotel does.

Pros: Included breakfast
Very nice staff
Convenient to historic sites
Convenient to freeway
Walking distance to many sites/shops/eateries
The nation's oldest residential street, the charming "Elfreth's Alley" is around the Corner
The old building has it's own charm
Spacious rooms. (Ours had a little kitchenette, a living room area with a couch, small table
and a separate bedroom with a door out to a landing. The landing was surrounded
by the brick building, so, kind of odd, but nice for a bit of fresh air).
The restaurant food was good, and widely known for having the largest number of wines on
tap.
If you are going here to experience history, it feels a bit like stepping back in time.

Potential Cons:
Our room style reminded me of a grandmother's home. I know this is in keeping with the
old world style of the hotel, but isn't particularly my style.
It's not centrally located on the main street, it sits at the very end, by Penn's landing.
