“Not bad,not good.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

Stayed here at the end of May 2013 with my wife.Drove up from Baltimore and the hotel was easy to find from the interstate, even though the hotel entrance is on 4th NOT Arch!No valet parking here so,even if the parking garage is right next door,I think $25 / night to self park is a tad excessive. The "bellhop" guy was great .helpful and friendly.Front desk staff not so good. They weren't rude, they just never seemed to be in a hurry to serve anyone. The room was fine, clean and comfy with good housekeeping staff. We used the restaurant only once and were not impressed. The breakfast buffet comprised of poor quality food which was served at temperatures ranging from lukewarm to cold. Our server was not very attentive,if we wanted something we had to attract HIS attention every time and even when he brought the bill he stood behind me with his hand outstretched waiting for me to notice him! On the plus side, the hotel's location is excellent. Two minutes walk to loads of bars, shops and restaurants, also 2minutes to the Liberty Bell, tour buses and Ben Franklin's grave! The hotel was changing from Holiday Express to Wyndham during our stay,so perhaps this contributed to to some of the negatives in this review.Even though we were a little disappointed during this stay we will give this hotel another chance when we return to Philly, because sometimes things go wrong and it's not really anyone's fault.Overall ,an average hotel in a great city.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back, overlooking the cemetery ,it's much quieter.

Dear Trip Advisor Guest,

Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay. It was a pleasure hosting your family reunion. Everyone seemed to have a great time and all attendees were very nice and friendly. Knowing that you do that reunion in different cities each year we'd love to have you back sometime in the future. Thank you again.

After reading mixed reviews on this hotel as it was going through a management transition, I was a little nervous about booking here. However, my boyfriend found an *amazing* deal through Travelocity, so Wyndham Philadelphia Historic District it was! This hotel met all our needs; I would recommend it to travelers looking for a comfy, no frills, home-base for seeing the city. The US Mint is literally across the street, it’s around the corner from Market Street, and a brief walk to Liberty Bell/Independence Visitors Center/etc… We enjoy touring a city on foot, so we walked everywhere (from the art museum to Penn’s Landing) without difficulty.
We stayed in a room on the 7th floor. The king sized bed was very comfortable, as were the pillows (I can be very finicky about the pillows!). The air conditioner worked well (it was in the low 90s every day and our room was nice and cool to return to); the room was clean and included a microwave and mini-frige. The shower had excellent water pressure.
We did not eat in the hotel so I can’t comment on the dining or the bar. There was a parking garage practically attached to the hotel where we parked the car. For public use it was $35 per 24 hours, with in-and-our privileges as often as you like. For hotel guests it was $30. There was a roof-top pool that was fun to utilize in the evenings (open until 10pm).

Dear Trip Advisor Guest,

Thank you for your comments regarding your stay. I'm glad to read that you enjoyed the hotel and it's amenities as well as the surrounding area of Old City. It's truly a great location. The roof top pool is not only a great place to cool off but you get some awesome views of the city from there. Thank you again for you comments and we hope to see you back sometime soon.

This hotel used to be a Hilton recently bought by Wyndham, rooms are older but remodeling is about to start. The beds were really comfortable, the staff was really friendly, and the rooftop pool was a plus. Location is right by Independence Hall. Would def stay here again.

Dear Trip Advisor Guest,

Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay over the 4th of July. I'm glad that you found the beds comfortable. They are really great. Thank you for your kind words about our staff. They are a great team. I'm also glad you were able to take advantage of the rooftop pool. It's not only a great place to cool off but it also has some great views of the city skyline. Thank you again and we hope to see you back again after the renovation.

A nice hotel with very little frills (a refrigerator is an extra $10/night) but all the right things for a family traveling to Philly for the 4th of July: clean rooms, OUTSTANDING service and hospitality, close to ALL the historic events (literally 2 blocks from Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell!) and an awesome rooftop swimming pool. Restaurants are all close by and within walking distance. Take a bus/SEPTA uptown to the PMA, the Please Touch Museum, etc etc.

All-in-all, a great and comparably inexpensive holiday!

Room Tip: the cheaper rooms have 2 full-size beds, instead of queens, which is what we had. Couldn't sleep...
