If you are in the Philadelphia area, a stop at the Reading Terminal Market is a must. It is one of the largest and oldest public markets in America, operated since 1892. On any day, there are 60-80 vendors offering meats, poultry, seafood, produce, cheeses, baked goods, confections, flowers, kitchenware, cookbooks, and jewelry. The market is open until 6:00 pm, but be aware that most of the Amish stands close between 3:00 and 4:00 pm. Any local will tell you that the market is the best place to eat. The variety is pretty much whatever you are looking for, Pennsylvania Dutch, Italian, Greek, Mexican, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Middle Eastern, Indian, Cajun, and Vegetarian. Some of the foods include Philly Cheese Steaks, Hoagies, Roast Beef, Roast Pork, Hot Dogs, Sausages, Corned Beef, Pastrami, Turkey, Oysters, Pizza, Gyros, Peking Duck, Crepes, Coffee, Juices, fresh baked goods and ice cream. Try it, you’ll love it.
