“A wedding weekend stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2011

We decided to stay at this Sheraton hotel based on the rates and proximity to the wedding we were attending on Thanksgiving weekend. We were overall very satisfied with our accommodations regarding the condition and cleanliness of our room. The front desk and concierge service way surpassed our expectations! Everyone was very helpful, courteous, professional etc. etc. Chris and Mary were two concierge staffers whose friendliness and knowledge were a great help in obtaining tickets for the Philadelphia City Tour and selection of area restaurants. They cheerfully assisted us more than once - it is always a great experience for guests when staff members enjoy their jobs and do them so well! Our invoice at check-out needed to be corrected and it was handled quickly and hassle-free.
The one down side for this Sheraton was the high prices for the breakfast offered at the hotel restaurant.

Room Tip: I would request a room that has been renovated. While our king room on a higher floor was in good c...

Marilyn always has a smile and speaks nicely to the patrons. She is never flustered when the line is long and because of her smiling personality, no one in the line complains. KUDOS to Marilyn.

I've stayed in other Sheratons before and have not been too impressed with the chain. I was pleasantly surprised how nice this hotel was. The front desk was super friendly and actually gave me club access even though I haven't hit the silver status just yet. They made a mistake telling me there's wifi in the lobby even though they meant there were computers I can use downstairs. The concierge was nice enough to give me free wifi access for that night because of the trouble I went through to go downstairs with my laptop. The club upstairs was nice as well - decent food and nice staff. The only downside was you couldn't go in after hours but the location of the hotel was great and you can easily walk anywhere. Overall, a pleasantly wonderful stay!

We have a lot of family in Philly, so visit often. Tend ot stay at the Starwood properties as I think they are the best. Westin and Le Meridien are A+, and Society Hill Sheraton is pretty good, love that location. This Sheraton however is the weakest of the bunch. It's a large, convention style hotel, but needs a lot of renovation. The arrival experience is poor, the driveway is not particularly attractive and the main entrance doors are not befitting an important upscale hotel. The lobby and rooms are just good enough, but rooms need better TVs. You can't check into a Sheraton at the end of 2011 and still have old tube TVs. The gym and pool however are abysmal. Low-end YMCA quality. Ownership needs to renovate ASAP.

Thank you for your feedback. The hotel has made great headway to better the product. We have 42 inch flatscreen televisions in every guestroom. We have upgraded our bedding package in every guestroom. Our Fitness Center and Pool are in the last leg of renovations due to reopen on December 25th. Our Driveway will be redone as well starting in January. Our property ownership are making strides one piece at a time.

Have a great holiday season.

My sentiments echo many of the previous reviewers, the location is ideal for business or sightseeing in Philly and all of the staff I encountered while there working a conference were very friendly and professional. As already mentioned, the rooms have been updated and the workout facility is in transition to a newer and nicer one, for now it is usable but not overly enjoyable.
Overall it is a nice hotel with a great staff and location, I would stay there again.

Room Tip: Personally prefer the upper floors for better views.

Co-workers and I spent a weekend off while working in the area at this hotel. We had gotten a remarkable price on priceline and it was worth every dime, I highly doubt I would pay the full going rate. The bar and breakfast area were very nice, but also very overpriced. However, the bartender had a rather heavy pour, which somehow makes the price bearable. The rooms were nicely remodeled and clean. Some parts of the building are showing their age but it seems as though it is a work in progress, and the completed areas are looking good. Their greatest asset is their concierge staff (I wish I could remember his name), he made excellent recommendations and was definitely full service. His attention alone was worth our room rate. The biggest opportunities for improvement include better heating in the lobby (the above mentioned bar is in the large open lobby area and a winter coat is basically required, even some of the bar staff were wearing them). As other people have mentioned, the elevators seems to need a little fine tuning. And finally, the entrances had very loud music being played, which during the day is fun, but even throughout the night, from my 5th floor room, it was still audible. All around not a bad stay, generally meets or exceeds expectations for a Sheraton with superior concierge service.

Room Tip: The higher floors are better to avoid street noise and hotel music. However the elevators are littl...

I stayed here for a conference this past week and found the hotel to be decent. Upon my check in they didn't have a king bed room that I reserved, but the front desk staff was great and gave me 50% off of my room rate for the first night as an apology. That's great customer service. The property seems like an older hotel but is nice. I do agree with the other reviews that they need to do something about the wall paper in the corridor on the floors. VERY dark and dreary!

One warning, the hotel fitness center is horrible. Very outdated, non-working equipment. That being said, according to the posters in the lobby, they're going to be upgrading it very soon to a Sheraton Core Performance gym. That will be very nice!
