“Cute Town, Nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

We stayed two nights at the Chestnut Hill Hotel while we were in town for a family get together. The staff could not have been friendlier and helpful. I had stayed at the hotel years ago and there is no comparison between what it was then and now. The beds are very comfortable, pillows and sheets are great quality and they have L'Occitane products in the bathroom. The gym is very small with four machines but it is clean and I was the only one to use it on both mornings. There is a computer on the second floor for guests to use. The breakfast has a variety of options including a make your own waffle machine. The restaurant attached to the hotel has good pub food and was a great place to grab a quick dinner when we arrived late one evening. We had a room that faced the back towards the Farmers Market which was nice because it was quiet.

Room Tip: Second floor towards the back so you can walk up one flight of stairs and be in a quiet area.

My wife and I recently spent several days; it was our second stay in six months. First stay was fine. Second stay: the room was not particularly clean; shower didn't drain; no bulb in lamp; lime stains in shower half way up the wall; closet built-in left only a few inches of hanging space; no room to walk around bed without scraping shins on wooden bed frame; maids play hip hop music at 8:00 am at full volume with doors open as they clean rooms (which unfortunately didn't generate any additional cleaning vigor). Hotel wouldn't allow a room change and were too busy to plunge the shower or replace missing bulb. In light of our prior good experience, it is apparent that there is no consistency. If you find yourself in a room that is clean and where the shower drains, where there is room to hang clothes and walk around the bed, and where the lights actually light, good for you. If not, there is no point getting worked up, because absolutely nothing will be done to address any issue. The conclusion? If you go, keep your expectations low. That way, if you're there on a good day, you'll enjoy your unexpected good fortune, and if not, you won't generate excess stomach acid complaining about ankle deep water in the shower. After, given the lack of light, you can't really see the standing water anyway.

I've now stayed here close to 10 times. I find the experience just as nice each time I come back. Specifically, the hotel is so comfortable and the entire staff so friendly and helpful. The rooms have nice little extra touches like a lighted make-up mirror, easily accessible places to work and charge your phone. The breakfast is almost set like an English pub. The bed is yummy and only a bit soft. The restaurant and farmer's markets on the same block are great. THe walkability to local shops and foods is magnificent.
The owner, Ron is often around and he sets the tone for the place to have a great way of running even though they are getting busier.

Chestnut Hill Hotel served as our base during wedding festivities. Accommodations were fantastic, personal service abounded. No need was unmet. When Hurricane Sandy's arrival disrupted our departure, they were flexible and accommodating. Location could not have been better. Since our last visit, the hotel has been renovated and the results are so inviting. The ownership and management team are highly visible and interactive. They care and it shows. From the early Philadelphia photographs and architectural renderings to the wonderfully eclectic collection of vintage china and place settings for the continental breakfast, every aspect of the hotel exudes warmth, charm, and the warmest of welcomes. The bar off the lobby was a lively gathering place for guest and locals. The Farmers Market and Deli across the patio was a treasure trove of delicacies, and dinner at the Chestnut Grill delightful. We can't wait to return.

The historic hotel is a short walk from the Chestnut Hill West train stop. And along that walk you will see all sorts of places to visit: pubs, co-op grocery store, cool hardware store, home furnishings, an actual record store, banks, etc. The hotel's continental breakfast combined the expected food with unexpected place settings -- nice touch. Our room was in the annex building behind the main property, and it was terrific. Modern and stylish. Recommended.

This 36 room lovingly restored hotel sits within a wonderful collection of shops and restaurants. Particularly enjoyed "The Farmer's Market" which seemed to me a mini-replica of the downtown Philadelphia Indoor Market! You don't have to walk outside in order to enjoy first class food and drink at "The Chestnut Grill", but if you do walk there are many places to dine within just a short stroll. Our room was filled with wonderful touches - ours had a gas fired fireplace, infra-red "LED" lit mahogany clad closet, bathroom with tony tub and shower, heated towel rack and floor heater etc. toGiven a tour of other rooms we found them all custom finished and unique. We were lovingly cared for by a highly motivated staff. Rating the entire property on a scale of 0 - 10, I'd give the Chestnut Hill Hotel an "11" (translation, 5 out of 5 stars plus)!

Room Tip: all the rooms are unique with different decor.
