“Cowboys vs Eagles guys trip”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

I and some friends of mine just went to Philly for the Cowboys vs. Eagles football game. I was told to stay in the downtown area so that we could walk to anywhere we wanted. After doing extensive hotel research of the downtown area there is no bargain to stay in the area. Since my buddy travels often for work he used his hotel points so we didn't have to pay for the hotel. First of all don't let the lobby area fool you with how nice it is compared to the rest of the building. Looks can be deceiving and in this instance looks were deceiving. I had read most of the reviews on here before we decided to go ahead and book a room at this hotel and as usual with reviews you have to take each one with a grain of salt. Majority of the ones that I read that were negative were for the most part true. I am just glad that we were given a room on the second floor because the elevator looked as if it could only hold 2 people at best. As we got to the second floor and began to walk down the hallway which is about as wide as the aisle in an airplane we noticed the floor had ripples in it. It ran through my head hmm I wonder when this floor is going to collapse. When we got to our room the floor was the same way, the bathroom floor was about 2 inches higher than the bedroom floor. Then we all began for the search for the thermostat because it was a little warm in the room and with 5 guys we needed to keep it cool. Well then I remembered reading a few reviews of not all the rooms have a thermostat in them...who knows why, so our temperature was being controlled by someone else. Luckily you were able to open the windows and that the weather was cool so we were able to solve that problem. But with that being said we got to listen to the noise coming from the alley. In our room we also had a roach trap which that is something always nice to see in a $120 a night hotel room. The "desk chair" looked like they found it on the street in front of a cafe in France. So if you are here for business and need to do any work on a computer bring your own chair. For some reason we had two separate rooms and so of course only one room had a television in it. Can you imagine 5 guys sharing a queen size bed to watch t.v.? The only thing our room had going for it was the renovated bathroom which had been updated very nicely. Well the toilet was crammed in the corner and it was a tight squeeze, there was about as much room to enjoy a morning passing as there is in a port-a-can. Now as for the shower went for some reason someone decided to purchase a shower curtain that was a few inches too short so some (a lot) of water ran onto the bathroom floor. The only way I would suggest this hotel to anyone is if you know for a fact you will have a room with a thermostat, will only be sleeping in the room, and if its a guys trip. If you have any other business being in Philadelphia pay more money to stay at a nicer hotel!

“Reasonable Price Good Location Lousy Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

We stayed in room 702 for 2 days. Room OK, but the hotel's elevator only goes to the 6th floor, which requires you to carry your belongings up 1 flight of stairs. The stairs are very steep and were add at later date to make use of space upstairs.

Water pressure in room was very sporatic and at best not always available for shower etc. You need to call front desk to have them do something to put presure back up.

Hotel is very centrally located and could really be a nice boutique hotel if someone would put some money into up grading the rooms.

It should also be noted that certain rooms do not have private bathrooms but are more like a European Hostel where you share a bathroom.

Only good things are hotel staff very nice and accomodating and mattress in room 702 was outstanding.

Good luck,

Room Tip: Ask for a remodeled room with a private bath.

Hello

I am very sorry to hear that your stay was not a pleasant one. I just want to address some of your concerns. We are currently updating the property with refinished rooms and bathrooms. So issues like water pressure will be a thing of the past. One thing that you mentioned which is not accurate is the "shared" bathroom for some of our rooms. We have 4 rooms with a private external bathroom which basically means the bathroom is private and only accessible by the guest in t hat room it uses the same key that one would use to access their room. We do not have shared bathrooms. And when a person reserves this type of room we make make it very clear what type of room it is verbally and through email. We do thank you for taking the time to post a review of our hotel we do take every review seriously and look to improve our property.

“Ripped Me OFF!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

I never stepped foot in this hotel and have such a bad taste in my mouth from the obscenely rude service just OVER THE PHONE, that I will never stay at a Choice Hotels brand again!

I reserved a room very last minute on a convention week in Philly. The room at Roadway ended up costing me $500 a night a few nights of the week! My company ended up saying to work from home.

I call the hotel to cancel and am told I'll be charged for my first nights stay for late cancellation. Stinks, but OK.

A $1300 bill shows up on my credit card. I call, no help. I call again... no help again. Finally I call the corporate instead of the hotel. The people at Roadway Inn in Philly NEVER CANCELED MY RESERVATION and showed me as a no show.

I called not ONE, not TWO, but THREE TIMES! Amazing. simply amazing.

Room Tip: Look elsewhere. If this is your only resort. go to another town!

Hello

Our hotel has a 48 hr cancellation policy. After going over your reservation it was noted that you were charged one night for cancelling outside this policy but the rest of your stay was refunded back to your Credit Card. Normally it takes 5-10 bus days for the credit to go onto your CC depending on the bank. If you have anymore concerns we ask that you contact the hotel directly.

Thank You

“Excellent Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

This building is old but they are in the process of remodeling, and the rooms that have been done over are very nice. We actually saw 3 rooms while there due to a problem with the TV cable. However, the front desk employees (Celia and Natasha while we were there) could not have been more pleasant or helpful in making our stay an enjoyable experience. The bathrooms are gorgeous. The room we stayed in the first night was nice, but the carpeting needed to be replaced. However, everything is very clean and the beds are extremely comfortable. Each room has a microwave, refrigertor, and Kuerig coffee maker. We looked at another room but the cable was out there too; that room and the one we stayed in were done over and very nice. We walked to the Kimmel Center, the mint, and the Reading Terminal easily. Independence Hall and many other attractions are also within walking distance. No breakfast is provided, but there are lots of places to eat and convenience stores that are close by. We had a wonderful time and would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask if the room has been remodeled.

“Much better than expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

After reading a few prior reviews of this hotel I was a bit apprehensive but either things have improved or the prior reviewers were overly critical.
The desk clerks were very friendly and personable. The hotel was right in the center of everything so I didn't have to take any type of public transporatation; everything was within walking distance.
The room was very clean. I had not been in a big city hotel for several years so I was afraid of "bedbugs" but after a thorough check the bed and all linens and bedding were perfectly
clean. The bed was comfortable. There was a microwave and a small fridge in the room and a big screen TV.
I would definitely recommend this hotel and I will rebook when I visit Philly next time.
