“Really good value and location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

We stayed here for 4 nights with our two children, and were very pleased overall. It helped that the DoubleTree was running a summer promotion that included free breakfast for us.

Our room was not large, but it was comfortable and clean. The location was terrific, and taxis in Philadelphia are so inexpensive that I would recommend cabbing it around town rather than renting a car and paying to park it. The hotel is also within walking distance of a lot of attractions and good restaurants, and is about a 15 minute walk from Reading Terminal Market.

The lobby was pretty cool! Very modern and bright, and our kids loved looking up at the changing colors on the chandelier.

Our only complaint was that the pool was very small and very cold, but it looks like there may have been a renovation of the pool area since we stayed there.

Overall, a really good value, and we will stay there again next summer.

“Location, location, location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

There's no denying this property has a great downtown Center City location and is a bargain for the price. You're in the center of the city's tourist, shopping and theater sections. The staff also are pleasant, professional and efficient.

The downside is the postage stamp-sized rooms with paper-thin walls and the depressing, tiny single-window portals that don't open. In a tribute to Japanese-style efficiency, the property has crammed an entire standard hotel room's furnishings into 260 square feet. The rooms also are in need of renovations -- chipping plaster and low water pressure don't help make this a preferred property. That said, you pay a fraction of the cost of nicer places in the area.

The worst part of this hotel is the noise. When someone gets off the elevator, you hear their entire conversation in your room half way down the hall. Because the rooms are all joined by internal "expand to suite" doors, you also hear every noise your neighbor makes, including conversations and alarm clocks.

If you're looking for a hotel that's perfect as a landing place to drop of shopping packages and a shower between shows and all-night partying, this place is perfect. If you're hoping to get any sleep, or looking for space and comfort, try one of the other hotels in the area.

“Great staff, but other problems at this Philly property”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

As other reviewers have noted, this property is in a terrific location directly across the street from the Academy of Music and easy walking distance to City Hall and all the fine center city restaurants on Walnut and Chestnut streets. They also have a consistently great staff, from the bellmen to the front desk to the waiters in the Balcony restaurant (the Sunday breakfast buffet, while a bit pricey at $17.99, is very good). Now the downside: they are in the middle of some type of renovation, and the beautiful elevated hot tub in the pool area is gone! Additionally, there is no access to the outside roof lounge, although that appears temporary. One final note of warning: do not use the pool! There must be hundreds of gallons of chlorine in it, and our eyes burned all evening. I truly hope they replace the hot tub and clean the pool, when staying with kids these are critical amenities.

“Philadelphia at it's BEST!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

This hotel has a great center city location, close to attractions and the SEPTA stations for easy access. Check-in was very smooth and welcoming, between the bell hop and the front desk agent. Our room was a high floor as requested with a great view! The bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean. I must compliment Teresa who made reservations for us at a local restaurant that was terrific, they treated us like royalty as we walked into the restaurant! Thank you for a fantastic stay! Your staff was great!

“Just Okay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

Mixed review on this hotel, really a stretch to say it's a Hilton. The Hotel is centrally located to shopping & nightlife, if you like to walk a little. Rooms are very clean, but the oddly angled & shaped rooms are hard to get by, with a long empty hallway & small bedroom area. Bathrooms are tiny & could use some TLC, with paint peeling above the shower, grout messed up around fixtures & cheap tile work. Didn't use the gym or pool this stay, but those are the hotel's best features.
