“Very Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2010

This is a good choice for central Philadelphia. We sound it very convenient to the convention center, Reading Market, the Market Station (train to airport), visiting historic sites, etc. Beds were comfortable and the bathroom was surprisingly roomy. Staff was was among the friendliest I've met.
How Trip Advisor can rate this at #37 and the Hampton at #22 is beyond me. The Marriott is clearly the better hotel in appointments, location, staffing and amenities. Our son and his friend stayed at the Hampton, and also thought the Marriott was much nicer.

We had to check-in early (7:30 am) because of a 1 pm graduation at Wharton. Upon our early arrival, the staff greeted us with such energy and smiles on an early Sunday morning! The Marriott then proceeded to give us a room without any hesitation (nor charge for arriving very early!). I was impressed by their excellent customer service!

The Philadelphia Marriott is very clean compared to other Marriotts I have stayed in. I recommend bringing a swimsuit, as their indoor pool is excellent (after a hectic day of graduation events).

The hotel is centrally located, next to the convention center, close to shopping, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, CVS, a Catholic church, and most importantly delicious eateries at Reading Terminal. I highly recommend this hotel for business or pleasure.

We went to Philly for the weekend because I had never been. The hotel was in a great location, we loved the fact that it was across a street from Reading Terminal Market and walking distance to just about everything except for the Art museum. The rooms were average Marriott rooms, nothing extremely fancy, we requested a top floor and the few was pretty at night. We had a Marriott Certificate so we didn't pay for the hotel. The parking at the hotel is extremely expensive, they a good about allowing you to leave your car in front of the hotel while you check in. We parked around the corner by City Hall and pay $17 for 24 hours where at the hotel it would have been $42. We also left the car in front and ran to do a little produce shopping at the market and we had no problems.

Stayed here for a conference. The rooms are beautiful. The location is amazing. You are right next to the train station and can get anywhere in the city very quickly. Right across the street from the Reading Terminal Market where I bought great food and souvenirs to take take back home including some great wine from a local vineyard. You walk a few blocks and you are at the Libery Bell and all the historic sites. You walk a few blocks the other way and you are right at the clubs and restaurants. The bar is a bit overpriced but what hotel bar isn't? I loved it. I stayed at a great rate because of the conference but checked the rate to see about taking the family back and it was over $300 a night. Will have to weigh the location vs. the price. You do get what you pay for.

Great location but expensive if you have a car! Staff were very friendly and helpful, room was comfortable and nice. I love Marriotts but wish they wouldn't nickel and dime for Wifi etc. If you're not on business and just want to check e:mail you're not going pay the 24hour rate for access. Had lunch in the restaurant which was pretty good and reasonably priced.

This room was large and very quiet, away from the main part of the hotel and the staff was fantastic! Would stay there again

I come to Philadelphia regularly on business and tend to choose high end hotels based on price which varies from trip to trip. Lately the Downtown Marriott has been coming up with some keen rates so I have stayed here twice recently.

Positives are it is a big hotel with an international feel about it, and service is what you would expect. Location is close to City Hall ie right in the middle and its a short walk to the tourist attractions such as the Bell etc. Buffet breakfast is very good. Swimming pool and fitness centre are large and well equiped.

Downsides are that its not in pristine condition these days, at least the rooms I have been given recently. Basin was cracked in the last one and it gives the impression that a refurb would be timely for the rooms. Dining in hotel is not what it was. There is just a sports bar sort of restaurant called 13 for the evenings and the menu is what you would expect from a sports bar ie basic. There used to be an excellent JWs steak house on site, but that has disappeared. There are plenty of alternative eating houses nearby though.

However, it does the job in some comfort and for me the choice is between the Marriott, Sheraton Society Hill, Omni or Loews. You will be comfortable in any of these which is why my main criteria is price.
