“Thank you, Shirley”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

I was working on a business travel reservation, and there was some confusion as to the check out date. Shirley in reservations stayed on the phone with me and helped me to secure a room during a very busy week for the hotel. She really went above and beyond. Thank you, Shirley!

Stayed here for business over the weekend and thought it was no better than a Courtyard (which was next door). The lobby is large with a circular bar but it's not really all that ornate. Front desk service was average. They certainly didn't roll out the red carpet but at least it was quick. The area around the hotel is not the cleanest and considering it is next to the convention center, you would think someone would work on cleaning the streets/sidewalks and trying to keep beggars out of that area.
The place is extremely expensive. $239 a night for a discounted conference rate is not a discount. $11 at the hotel bar for a vodka tonic...it certainly is not Vegas.
The room was clean and nice.

The various doormen at this hotel were all prompt. When checking out there were 4 available for the crowd. Parking was $48. Expensive, but the valet service was excellent. There is Hertz desk in the lobby also with excellent service and a better value than our car at the airport. The hotel location is also the best. Reading Market across the street on one side and city hall the other. You can walk to all of the museums.

Room Tip: The gym and pool is on the 7th floor. There are rooms on that floor too.

Clean, comfortable rooms and what you should expect from a Marriott. 13, the restaurant, was also very good. Great location. If you get a chance, try a sliced pork sandwich at Dinics in the Reading Terminal Market (just a block away).

This hotel is a good hotel to stay at. It is in a great location and convenient, right in the heart of Philly and close to stores and restaurants. If you want to be in the middle of it all stay here. The parking is priced (high) but comparable to neighboring garages. It is worth it because the hotel has valet instead of walking thru the city after a long day or night. The room is very clean and updated, compared to the Airport Marriott. If you want a view, stay on a higher floor or in the towers. The bellhop stand was very efficient and the staff was friendly. Also, good for kids. I stay at this hotel very frequently and the quality has never gone down. They have a Hertz rental car counter so you can rent a car for the day(s) and the car will be parked downstairs in valet waiting for you. This hotel use to have an outstanding International Buffet, now it only has a made to order breakfast (taste like the buffet sitting in the back on warmers, NOT FRESHLY made) and a partial WEAK buffet selection (not like before the change). Cons: NO more International Buffet, long wait time to pick up/drop off car to/from valet, very busy hotel, the mattress is soooo hard (they change the mattress since I was there), and service is average because of crowds but it is expected. This is top choice to stay in Philadelphia; I will definitely be staying again.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are more spacious.

Maybe I was pampered by staying at the Washington DC 'flagship' Marriott-But whatever you say, this Marriott property was a let down.
1. I understand that with conferences you cannot alway get a good view. But if one is paying $209 /day and if the hotel is still advertising a sale at $199-them maybe you should give the existing guest better 'view' rooms. My room in the 14 floor faced another bank of windows.
2.This was my biggest peeve and I will take this up with our conference organizers; I saw many conference attendees being rudely handled by the wait staff. On more than one occasion, I saw Japanese, Korean and Indian attendees being talked to rudely, especially during the breakfast times, which were chaotic. This is unacceptable. I will be officially mailing out to some of the medical organizations I work with that we should stay away from such hotels. Maybe the problem is Philadelphia itself-I did notice the cleaners and even the hostel greeters were not consistently helpful. As an asian male when I asked the front door staff (not concierge) if he would call me a cab-he pointed to the front door and turned away.
3. The hotel itself is very old with torn wallpaper, very low pressure faucets showerheads. But it is clean and relatively quiet.
3. Now for the good part. The hotel is very well located in the heart of downtown and accessible easily. On site bar and restaurant is very good. Maggianos opposite was excellent while Hardrock next door should be avoided. Reading terminal was fantastic.

Will not come back.

Great place to stay. Close to Reading Terminal, Starbucks in the lobby, nice rooms, fantastic gym and pool. I would highly recommend this place for it's great location, friendly staff and loads of amenities.
