“Haven't stayed yet and hope this is not what's to come...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2011

This will be updated post-stay but had to comment on my experience so far.

I called to confirm a reservation I "won" through Priceline. Here's why: 1. There were discrepancies between the Priceline receipt and the hotel reservation online including the fact that the credit card on the hotel reservation was not even mine. That concerns me. Hope no one else is paying for my room. I do the right thing and call and the hotel staff can do nothing about it, Priceline says not to worry.
2. Priceline asks that you call the hotel to ask about rooms. Reservation says for a king or two doubles. I ask the hotel staff if I can request a double since I am traveling with my child. She again can't possibly put a note in the system about it. I ask her what would happen if I showed up? Would I get a double or a king. She doesn't answer but says she can't do anything about it. What kind of answer is that? Priceline faxes a request for a double. Who knows what we will end up with in the end.

Doesn't anyone care about helping the customer have a good experience? Marriott, you are such a reputable company and I have stayed at this hotel in the past. I hope my visit will prove better than this initial experience. Stay tuned...

Nicely refurbished, but expensive and a cavernous lobby that's louder than Grand Central Station at evening rush hour. If vacation traveling, try for something smaller, more charming.

We stayed here for a couple nights. The staff is very friendly. The restaurant was a bit pricey but food was good. It is in a good location and right beside Reading Terminal Market.

We stayed at the Marriott downtown for a friend's wedding weekend and loved it. The hotel is very clean and modern with several fine bars and a solid restaurant. The room was standard but everything was done very well. We had an early check in and requested a later check out and the staff was very helpful. The location is great for walking to all the tourist attractions in Philly. No complaints.

We stayed at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown on a spring visit to the city, and were generally satisfied.

Location:
The location is the biggest selling point for the property. Situated steps away from major attractions, the hotel was right in the middle of the action. We enjoyed the walkability of the surroundings, the many retail and food outlets adjacent the hotel, and the centralized location which facilitated sightseeing.
Rooms:
We received an updated, comfortable queen-queen room on a relatively high floor. The view from the room wasn't anything special, but the high floor provided some much needed quiet from the bustling streets below. The room was not very large in size, but was typical to a Marriott brand property: 37-inch LCD television, comfortable beds, impeccable cleanliness.
Service:
Service was fine at the hotel. We had dinner at the restaurant in the lobby and found service to be up to par; check-in was efficient.
Summary:
This is a typical Marriott brand property in the heart of Philadelphia. We obtained rates around $150.00, so the hotel was a great value, but parking was costly and rare. The location is a bit noisy, as can be expected of downtown, but perfect for touring the city. Rooms were comfortable, service was up to par, and for the price it was a choice we would be glad to return to.

Room Tip: A high-floor room affords good views of the bustling street below as well as quiet.

It was our first time in Philly. We got about 50% on a site so the room seemed like it would be affordable to us. My daughter, friend and I stayed. Very clean, updated rooms with a view from our 22nd floor. Awesome!! Lobby is gorgeous. Our check in clerk was friendly and welcoming. The sheets and beds were very comfy and starch white. The pool on the 7th floor was a treat. Walking distance to Reading Market, Ind. Hall, Liberty Bell, Rocky statue etc. It was city center for sure! We would and will stay here again. Bed bug FREE! One of our friends is a pest control technician and he checked our room and it was very clean he said. The downsides? Silly for all the original price of a room they will not give free wifi. Wifi is $12.00 a night. But the Starbucks downstairs has free wifi and it is in same bldg! The parking is safer but outrageous at $45.00 for 24hrs. However, it was our first time there and we didnt know where else to park. The lot across the street is out in the open and they want you to let this ONE guy you key. No thanks. Park at the hotel. The Valets were busy but very accomodating and nice. And we checked out at Noon but at that price you can keep your car there till 8 at night so we walked the city looking at sites! And no continential breakfast either. Overall, we are gonna consider this again!

Room Tip: The corner room on floor 22 was a fantastic view of the Ben Franklin Bridge at night.

The Philadelphia Marriott Downtown is a great hotel and can be had for a steal of a price if you use one of the bidding sites....it has been renovated very recently, so be skeptical of older negative reviews.

The location is absolutely perfect. It is right in the center of everything, literally the best location in Philadelphia. If location is important, this is your hotel. It is directly across the street from Reading Terminal Market, and a few minutes’ walk to every attraction. It is connected to the convention center and the SEPTA station (trains/subway).

The service was perfect. The check-in agent was probably the best I have ever had, accommodating every request (fridge and crib) and was very pleasant (and happy). They intentionally placed us (with a baby) at a corner room at the end of a hallway - to me this is usually a sign hotel management has it together (placing babies/families with kids away from everyone else).

The room looked brand new (it was recently renovated). The bed was perfect, room spotless, bathroom of good quality. The corner window was huge and had a great view. The public spaces of the hotel all also looked brand new, and were modern and clean.

Overall, this is an excellent hotel in the best location in Philly!
