My friend & I stayed here for a conference. Upon arrival, the taxi helped us unload our bags and said a bellman would be over shortly. We tried to get someone's attention, but no bell staff would come over. Finally, to the taxi driver's shock, my friend went over and grabbed a luggage cart herself and wheeled it over, and we loaded the bags on. We wheeled the cart into the hotel, and only as we reached the DOOR, did a bellman come to "help" us. Then he left the cart in the middle of the lobby while we checked in. I went to get the cart--didn't want it in the middle of the lobby--and brought it over to the front desk. Another bellman came over to tell us that carts were not allowed in the check in area, and dragged it back out to the middle of nowhere.

When we checked in, we again tried to get a bellman's attention to help us to the room. Nothing. So we wheeled it ourselves toward the elevators. Lo and behold--manager Tim Haggerty steps out of the elevator, sees us, and quickly offers his services. He was over-and-beyond helpful, which was a good save for the hotel!

The other service issue was with the concierge. I wanted to take a long run, so Ivan pointed to a specific door, said, "Go out these doors, take a left on Filbert, then a left on 20th, and about a mile and a half down you will find Ben Franklin." He even wrote these instructions down. Well, I did as he told me. But turning left on 20th took me down to the ghetto! I finally stopped and asked four women sitting on some steps (cutting each other's hair with a knife!!) how to get to Ben Franklin, and they were nice enough to point me the other way. Once I found the right way, the run was fabulous.

Another night I wanted to go to the Monk's Cafe. The valets told me to go 2 blocks this way, then 3 blocks left. Turns out it was about 10 blocks left! I thought, "What is it with people here and giving directions?"

The hotel itself is nice , the rooms are spacious, and the toiletries are great. The bathroom has a HUGE counter, perfect for two women to spread out on. The beds are incredibly comfortable; some nights we were so tired upon coming home that we would just pass out on top of the covers, and instantly be fast asleep.

It's fairly convenient to the sights and shopping, a little bit of a walk if you like that. My friends enjoyed the lobby bar very much. I went to the Reading Terminal Market every day; that was one of my favorite things!

If they can fix the service & knowledge issues, they'll be fine.

  • Liked — The beds were outstandingly comfy.
  • Disliked — service issues

I ended up here last minute after having had a horrible experience at another hotel. That they welcomed me with a cookie, and a good one to boot, was such a delight!!!!! The bed was plush, the coffee/tea options were great, and the Neutrogena products were such a treat. Having to pay for internet was a little much, but really, that was just a minor detail when everything else worked out so well.

I recently stayed at the Marriot Downtown and was very surprised at how nice the hotel is. Room rate was a little high but I guess nothing outrageous for a City stay hotel. The location was within walking distance of most sights (if you don't mind walking a bit).
The best part of the hotel is the wonderfully soft and comfortable beds. THe breakfast buffet is pretty good too. Overall I was pretty happy with my stay.

We arrived on a Saturday night and found the parking lot for this hotel to be "full". The valet parking attendant told us to park across the street at the parking garage. I couldn't understand why we would not be able to park our car at the hotel we registered with, considering the cost of the room was $200 per night. The attendant smugly told my father, who is 71 years old, he "could use the exercise." When I confronted the attendant about his smart remark, another attendant came over and was able to park our car in the hotel parking lot.

We got settled in our rooms which were larger than a standard room, but didn't have the amenities I expected for a high priced hotel located within the PA convention center. No microwave, table with chairs or small refrigerator but did have a coffee pot.

We ate at the American Grill for dinner which I would not recommend due to limited selection, however, the breakfast buffet was wonderful.

We ate at Maggiano's Little Italy for dinner the following night which was absolutely divine but the wait was 1 1/2 hours without a reservation - I highly recommend a reservation.

The bell hop service at the hotel was exceptional!

The pool was disappointing, but the exercise room was fabulous.

Our rooms were in the "deluxe tower" which I recommend highly if you are going to any event at the PA convention center because they are closer than the traditional rooms.

Overall, we had a very nice stay.

Arrived 1½ hours before our 3pm check in time but they were able to give us a room so a good start. Can't find any compalint about the room, it was clean, a good size, coffee making facility, comfy beds. It lacked character as does the hotel, but hardly a fault.
Location is excellent for historic sights, shopping, subway outside your door. Everything is walking distance though be it a good walk to lets say, the museum of modern art.

Used the gym once and pool which was clean.

Staff were friendly if you spoke to them but the hotel generally is a business centre and it lacks that homely feel. But, i guess you know that if you stay at a Marriott.

Good location, would stay here again and would recommend it too anyone who was visiting Philly.
