“Great location...Great staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

We stayed on a Saturday night before the Rock n Roll Half Marathon which is run in the city. Staff was very well informed for the race. Rooms were clean and large for a city hotel! We would not hesitate to stay again.

Room Tip: Valet parking is expensive...however if you plan to stay in the city for a long day after checkout t...

My wife & I had the pleasure of stay at this hotel Sept 21-26. I loved the location to the downtown places, very easy to walk to many of the tourist sites. The staff was very helpful and efficient when I need help with something. We stayed on the 8th floor and our housekeeper Debbie took great care of us and always had a beautiful smile. One neat thing was that I left my expensive earbuds in the room and realized it when I got home. So I called the hotel and talked to Alberto P., he said he would check with Debbie and call me back. Well they found them, call me and then mailed them back to me. Thank you! If I ever have the opportunity to visit Philly again, you can bet I'll be staying at this hotel.

Room Tip: Request the eighth floor we're housekeeper Debbie oversees.

My husband has stayed at this hotel many times for business and since we were going to do a one day visit to Independence Square and its attractions, we decided to stay at the Courtyard. He was able to get a good room rate, but the valet parking seemed quite high. We were pleased, however, with the hotel's policy of allowing you to leave your vehicle in their parking lot until 6pm on the day of your checkout. They will also lock up your suitcases until you're ready to depart. This came in extremely handy for us since we wanted to walk through the historic area without having to re-park our car.

The staff was friendly and the hotel, as others have mentioned, was conveniently located to Reading Market Terminal. We arrived too late Sunday evening, though, to be able to eat there, since it's only open 8 or 9 till 5 or 6, depending on the day.

The room size was adequate for a family of four for one night. Our room (and I inferred that all rooms) had a refrigerator. It was cleverly hidden in the tv cabinet. We were quite pleased with the quiet heating/ac unit - like you would have at home rather than the noisy ones that are often found in hotels. The queen beds were very comfortable. (I appreciated that they were queens. Other Marriotts often only have doubles.) The tub was equipped with two corner soap dishes which was a nice, handy touch. My favorite part of the room was the way the desk was set apart in an alcove so someone sitting on one of the beds could watch tv while someone else could sit at the desk and not be too disturbed by the tv noise.

Went into Philly to see a concert at the Mann Center and stayed at the Courtyard Marriott Philadelphia Downtown 9-20 through 9-22. Originally, booked another hotel, but a few days before check-in the rate at the Courtyard went down significantly. The hotel is in an historic building (once City Hall Annex) and located centrally. Our room was a typical hotel room (on the small side), but was just fine for our needs. We were on a high floor, but unfortunately didn’t have a view. Clean, with a refrigerator (came in handy), free wifi, and a good bed. Hotel lobby was quite nice and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Asked them lots of questions and they were informative and never acted as if you were bothering them. Valet staff was great. We took advantage of the pool (only 3 ft deep, though; good if you have kids) and the hot tub after being out all day doing the “tourist” stuff. Within walking distance of the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, etc. Museums near by. The most convenient thing for us was public transportation (SEPTA) stopped right outside the Courtyard and dropped us off at the Mann Center ($2.25 per person, each way) and returned us to the hotel. We didn’t eat at the hotel (although there is a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner), but did have a cocktail. The Courtyard is located one block from the Reading Terminal Market. We loved the place! We had breakfast at the “Down Home Diner” both mornings we were there. There are specialty stands, fresh produce, seafood, Pennsylvania Dutch goods and a variety of restaurants. Great place. Went out for a nice dinner, Devon Seafood Grill in Rittenhouse Square. Very nice ambience and the food was very good: we had lobster bisque, filet mignon, scallops, crab cake and key lime pie. A bit pricey, but we enjoyed it! We’ve gone to Philly on several occasions, but just “in and out”. It was our first time staying for a few days. Loved the vibe of the City and would definitely go back. We’d stay at the Courtyard again! Good value and lots of pluses.

My husband was staying at the hotel and had to visit the ER in the middle of the night. The staff were extremely accommodating. When I flew in to be with him the next day, the staff sent a complimentary snack to the room and ensured we had everything we needed. The location was near shopping and restaurants and there is a nice Starbucks in the lobby. Lobby is very nice with many spots to sit and people watch. The actual room was average and could use some upgrading, especially the bathrooms. Beds were comfortable.

I was traveling alone for a review course for my Family Nurse Practitioner exam. The review course was excellent, but I know I am not reviewing the course here. I wouldn't have stayed at this hotel if it weren't for the review course. I am rating my stay as average. I really thought from the other reviews I would be dazzled by the customer service. I arrived early in the morning on a Friday and had requested ahead of time with the reservations for an early check-in because of being in the review course from 8-5PM. I was told when I got there it didn't matter that I had requested early check in, it was not availalbe. I was o.k. with this, just kept my luggage in the car. It was a little disappointing to have requested it, but wasn't told it was not guaranteed. The room was average. There was dust on the lights in the bathroom and one of the bulbs was out. Again, something I could live with for a few days. During the night the air conditioner began to leak water everywhere. I told the desk in the morning as I had driven four hours to get to the review course and was exhausted. I didn't really want someone coming in the room in the middle of the night. Just wanted to sleep! Someone did come during the day to fix it, but left towels underneath the air conditioner to mop up the water. I again was disappointed with how the room looked with wet towels underneath the air conditioner, but could live with it. I was not told it was fixed or asked if it was fixed to my satisfaction. The one piece of furniture in the room that was better than average was the bed. I did have a restful sleep when I could get to sleep finally. There is a hospital nearby so ambulances were heard throughout the night. The other thing that would happen frequently is the rooms next door would have doors that would slam shut when people went in and out of them. It would awaken me during the night! The view from the window was nice, but not spectacular. I would probably not return as I do not see myself returning to Philadelphia.

Green Features: Would like to see some more explanations of what to put in which trash can. I come from a state that does not have mandatory recycling so I wasn't sure if I was putting the trash in the correct can or not.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback your recent visit. I am certainly disappointed that your stay was not all that it could have been. Please accept our sincere apology for a less than satisfactory stay. The way our front desk staff handled your check in was not acceptable certainly not up to Marriott standard. I am also embarrassed to read that there was dust on the lights in the bathroom and the bulbs were out, and the air conditioner was leaking water. I apologize for our failure in not detecting these issues prior to allowing the room to be occupied. Your comments will be shared with both our housekeeping and engineering departments for their follow up and training. We would welcome speaking with you further on the matter. Please feel free to contact our General Manager, Jim Gratton at 215-832-3048 so that we can work to determine an appropriate resolution to this issue. Thank you again for your feedback.
