While you can SEE the hotel from the airport, it takes someone more skilled in navigation than me to actually get there. I ended up having to go over the huge, under-construction bridge that is 76, make an illegal (I think) U-turn, and head back over the bridge the other way to finally find my way into the hotel complex. All told, it took me over an hour to find the entrance. And, if you pull into the complex, you pay the $7 parking fee. (You validate the ticket at the front desk and it's added to your hotel bill, so it's not too inconvenient.)
I thought the front desk was kind of an odd arrangement as it was a circle, off to the left a bit, so one of the desk clerks was facing away from the door. At any rate, the guy who checked me in was fast and courteous. My only issue was that he had a couple of pizza boxes sitting there that smelled AMAZING and he would only tell me about the food available in the 3 Sheridan hotels in the complex. I almost took one and ran, but I was sure he'd catch me before I made it to the elevator...
Thanks to my computer being DOA, I came back downstairs to use their business center to check in and hunt for food. The lobby was loud and echo-y, but that was mostly due to one obnoxious drunk guy in the bar. (They handled him very well.) The lady (maybe her name was Danielle?) on the front desk was fantastic! AND she had a menu for the delicious smelling boxes! Yay! I got one delivered (see other review for Aya's Pizza), watched NCIS and didn't stick my nose out of the room again.
I'm not sure what I was expecting with a name like ALOFT but it wasn't exactly what I had in mind. The room wasn't cold, but felt that way with the concrete walls and IKEA-type furniture. It was an interesting layout - the shower had a smoked glass wall that showed in the bedroom - but very functional. They have a couple magazines in the room if all else fails to entertain you. Because I hoard them, I was disappointed in the lack of travel size toiletries - they had dispensers mounted in the shower for shampoo and shower gel. I was also fascinated by the alarm clock - it had a light in it too so it wasn't just a sound alarm.
All in all, a nice hotel very conveniently located. My only advice is to return the rental car beforehand and TAKE THE SHUTTLE instead of trying to find it on your own.
