“Great location at a reasonable price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2009

Just returned from an 8 night stay at unit 21 at Mammoth View Villas. We booked directly with the owner on the VRBO website. Location was great just a 5 minute walk to the village and stop number 57 on the blue bus line right outside the complex. Buses run every 15 minutes to the Canyon Lodge. We could do unit to ski slope in around 7 mins.

The condo (2 bedroom plus loft) was a little cramped for our party of 8 but had all the necessary facilities and very comfortable beds. Plenty of large size pans for cooking, dishwasher, full size fridge/freezer and bonus of a large washing machine and tumble dryer in the unit. Decor was a little dated but comfortable.

Large fireplace with lots of dry wood kept us toasty warm but there was only seating for 5 around the fire with the rest of our party having to sit round the small dining table.

We did a lot of research before booking and found this condo to be the best value for money this close to the lifts/bus service. If we were to return, we would look again for something in the Canyon Lodge area but probably get a larger condo for the number of people in our group.

I stay in Mammoth several times a year for ski season. I generally stay at a local hotel with my wife but we were able to put together a small group for this trip.

I found this condo on a well known message board (you can do the math) and rented directly from the owner. It was considerably less than if I had booked through their reservation service.

Plusses: It was a great value for the money. The condo had two bedrooms downstairs (one queen and one room with a bunk and a single), a fold out futon on the main level, and a queen in the loft. It is a five minute walk downhill to the Gondola. There is a bus stop right at the entrance to the condo.

Neutral: The condo is heated by the wood burning fireplace. While this seems fun and romantic, it requires lots of attention and it is quite cold in the morning. It can get a little messy cleaning out the ashes so you can start a new fire.

Minuses: There are only two parking passes included. If you have a full condo, it's impossible to get everyone and the luggage and gear into two cars. If you bring a third car, you might have to get "creative" to get all your cars there. The hot tub is across the parking lot which can be some distance if you're at the far end of the complex.

I would absolutely stay there again if I got a similar rate but if paying retail, I might look for a better value.

  • Liked — Good Value for the Money
  • Disliked — Parking lot can be treacherous after a snow storm, melting, and refreezing.

We stayed at the Mammoth View Villas during our recent ski holiday. We were pleasantly surprised for the following reasons:
- walking distance to the Village where you can catch the Gondola straight up to Canyon Lodge as well as potter around the shops, restaurants and pubs;
- close to transport: bus stop on the Blue Line right outside the property and access to all 4 bus routes from the Village - the Green and Red lines take you to Vons (for groceries);
- the unit (Unit 24) we stayed in had laundry facilities, ski storage, 2 bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, fireplace (plus firewood), a small weber, TV/DVD/Video/Stereo and parking;
- there is also a spa in the complex.

We highly recommend MVV which can be booked through Mammoth Reservations Bureau: ----. Staff there were very helpful and friendly.
