“Excellent Greek Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

The Souvlaki and Gyros were delicious. The meats were very tender and just the right amount of flavor. We loved the blue-and-white decor. The feel of Greece in a California restaurant. Good service.

“very good but expensive, and with a weak wine list”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2013

I ate here for the first time a few days ago with a friend. We both enjoyed our meals and found Jimmy's very good but not the best price-performer of the 5 places where we had dinner in Mammoth.

My Greek salad was good -- the tomatoes were reasonable given the season -- but it was very salty. My friend loved his dolmates (stuffed grape leaves). We each ended up having the grilled whole fish (sea bream, aka bronzino), which is a classic Mediterranean dish. This was excellent -- incredibly moist and flavorful. These fish are served whole and the customer has to debone them, but it's easy.

Jimmy's has a very weak selection of wines by the glass and they're fairly expensive.

All in all, I'd dine here again realizing that I'll pay a lot, and skip the wine.

“Fairly good food but the wine list cannot be serious”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

We had dinner here last week for the first time and were happy to be able to get Greek food in Mammoth. The service was very attentive although since it's off season, the place was fairly empty so perhaps it would not be at a busier time. We suspect that the other reviews are pointing out the service because it really does stand out. We ordered the grilled artichoke and was a very good way to start a nice meal. We ordered two different types of slouvaki. The beef was fine while the lamb was quite good. We were intrigued with the fresh fish offerings and will likely return when we want fish for dinner. We were very disappointed with the spankopita, just lumps of dough with so little filling you couldn't taste it. The biggest curiosity to us was the wine list. There were a few wines that were reasonably priced but the list included so many astronomically priced wines that we can not imagine many people ordering off the top end. Surely the wine list will engender a lot of comment but it doesn't seem to serve the clientele very well. They should extend the lower end of the list. I mean, this is California where there are many fine but moderately wines. Add some of those.

“Entirely redone, good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

A bit pricy but we can't fault the food, the size of the portions. The place is very pretty with open kitchen, wood grill. Slightly less than perfect ventilation system puts a trace of the smoke into the room. Excellent lamb-burger and fries.

“The Mediterranean has hit Mammoth!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013

My Greek wife an I visited Jimmy's Taverna last night with our friends and it was amazing!
The freshness of the ingredients from appetizers to deserts were superb.
We went family style and it was the way to go.
Everything we ate was authentic greek cuisine, fresh and tasty.
Dolmades, Saganaki, Tratapiato and home made Hummus to start, all great.
We had many types of fish and you could not go wrong with any of their offerings.
The fresh whole fish off the wood fire grill was truly outstanding, and the lobster was unreal.
The home made deserts are all insane on the taste buds.
Along with impeccable service, Jimmy's happens to have the best wine list I've seen in the Sierra.
The ambience is great for romance or a big party, we chose the latter. Good times!!
