“Great Hike!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

My wife and two teens, along with myself were taken on this hike by family while visting Mammoth over 4th of July. They told us it wasn't hard, but it wasn't easy either. So not knowing what to expect we set out and had a great time. Yes, there is elevation gain, and switchbacks, and it's not a Sunday stroll in the park, but the payoffs were amazing. Beautiful views of the lakes below and clean, crisp air. Amazing. Walking at a moderate pace it took us about an hour to reach Crystal Lake, and that included stopping occasionally for a sip of water, or just chatting with others on the trail. I would definitely recommend this hike for any age willing to give it a go. Just do it at whatever pace you are comfortable with. I think that's the key to any hike!

“Worth the climb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

Having seen all 13 of the lakes in the Mammoth Lakes group, I would highly recommend this one for its occasionally jaw dropping views of the other four large lakes, view of the back of Crystal Crag, and overall beauty of brilliant blue Crystal itself. While the trail to Crystal is basically uphill, most of it is in the shade. Adventurous and fit hikers can take the switchback trail at the north end of the lake to enjoy expansive views from Mammoth Crest. Even more adventurous hikers can ascend the Crest, head south through the Deer Lakes, and take the Duck Pass Trail to enjoy Duck, Pika, Barney, Red, Skelton, and Arrowhead Lakes. This is about a ten mile jaunt, and one needs to have a vehicle waiting at the Duck Pass trailhead parking lot. If I had to choose one lake to show a new visitor to the area, Crystal is it.

“Incredible views along the way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

Not being much of a hiking family, we thought it was quite the hike, probably 1.5 hrs there and almost an hour back. The climb is pretty steep (for us) for most of the way but the views all along are incredible. The path is very good and not a challenge in itself.

Crystal Lake itself is a beautiful small lake fed by the snows all around. We just went and there was a little snow on the path but just enough for the kids to make snowballs.

Parking is plentiful in the day use park. Definitely do this hike when in the area.

“Beautiful Hike”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

This is a really nice hike--not too easy, it is steep, and has switchbacks. Not too hard either, definitely 1/2 day. The lake itself is pretty, but even better are the views.

“Great day hiking trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013

This hike is a little steep at times but not too long and definitely worth it. The scenery on the way up is beautiful and you see several lakes. Crystal lake is beautiful and relaxing. Definitely worth the trip!
