“Great Improvement!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2010

We went back to this hotel because of the low low price we got from hotels.com. We had low expectations from the last stay from several years ago. But, what a difference new management can make! This place still is an economy hotel, not a 5 star hotel. But, for the price you pay, you get a clean room, a great location, less than a minute to a shuttle stop, complimentary breakfast, and super friendly front desk - I believe he was the owner. This place may not be a dream honeymoon destination, but excellent for family and group travelers.

I stayed here with a couple of my friends for a snowboarding trip to Mammoth. This place is well kept, clean, and good for the price. The rooms are spacious and each one of us had a bed ( we got a 2 queen room with a sleeper sofa). The front desk (I'm assuming it was the owner of the place) was very nice and accommodating. He gave us suggestions about which restaurants to go to and was always friendly. This is not a five star resort, it's a good clean budget friendly place so know what to expect.

I would stay here again.

I was amazed when we walked in. the owner knew who we were before even checking in, greeted us with warmth and had lovely conversations with him. The room was big and clean. I can not believe half the stories on this website. Yes its not a fancy hotel but the owner makes you feel at home and will go the mile to make your stay enjoyable. He will also suggest places to go to make your trip enjoyable. Because of Mr. Kim we will definitely go back. I will not stay at a fancy hotel when I can save money on other things and feel at home.

I don't know what other people or talking about in their reviews. Travelodge is clean, well kept, owners are on site and available 24 hours. Shuttle stop is right in front of the hotel. If you're looking for 5 star, go stay at the Monache, but if you want the cleanest hotel, with the best management (and breakfast including fresh fruit) and still want a great value, stay at the Travelodge. Owners went out of their way to make sure we were completely comfortable, you can tell they genuinely care about their guests and that's important. Travelodge just got customers for life!

We spent Christmas at Mammoth Lakes and booked the Travel Lodge without reading the reviews. We were apprehensive after reading the previous reviews and were prepared for the worst. When we arrived, It was quite the contrast from what we had read from previous reviews. We had a fantastic time, the owners were so nice and friendly. We traveled with our dogs as well and they couldn't have been nicer. The room was basic, big and clean, everything worked, plenty of room for the dogs and their dog beds as well. Every morning there was fresh coffee, orange juice, and other juices, cereal, all kinds of muffins and donuts plus a free newspaper.to take. Also hot chocolate was always available which our kids especially liked. We had a wonderful Christmas there at the Travel lodge. We will be back for sure to see Young and Mary Kim and their dog Chi Chi and their 3 cats.. Thank you!!!

Mammoth Lakes is a very expensive place to visit for a Christmas skiing trip but, as a family of four, we wanted to go. We searched around the internet for "cheap" accomodation and found the Travelodge. We also noted they were pet-friendly as we were bringing along our two large dogs.. After booking, we saw all the terrible reviews and were very concerned about what we would find. Luckily, not only were our concerns erased but we had a great experience there.
The owners, John and Mary, took over the Travelodge in October and, from the sounds of it, they have made quite a difference. For us, they were accomodating and helpful in every aspect of our visit from room needs to local town information to snow conditions, etc.. They offered a simple but adequate continental breakfast (cereal, coffee, juices, muffins, donuts, toast, jam) at no extra cost.
The room was roomy, clean, well-heated, and maid service dependable. It's not the Ritz but it's comfortable. The dogs had easy access (as in front door) and we felt no inconvenience for ourselves or others in having them there.
We returned from skiing and John always had some coffee or hot chocolate ready. He also has some great stories to share while you sip your brew.
There is free covered parking under the building with quick access from there to the rooms. There are some game tables in the basement as well as a jacuzzi but we didn't really spend any time there and my wife didn't like the look of the jacuzzi.
If you are high maintenance then I would look elsewhere. However, if you are looking for a decent, clean, family-friendly, pet-friendly, people-friendly environment at reasonable rates for Mammoth Lakes then this is the place.
Oh, yeah, go next door to the Angel Restaurant for the Chicken Pot Pie, french onion soup or other dishes. Would avoid the all you can eat Pork ribs on Tuesdays, though (too dry and salty).
Have a great stay in Mammoth Lakes!

Young Kim, who just purchased this hotel, and was a previous owner of a B/B in Cambridge, Ma with his wife has made this place amazing. They know their guests, provide breakfast in the morning, make sure rooms have everything, kids are taken care of as well as their pets. They even gave my son and I on Christmas day a big slice of red velvet cake (homemade I may add) to say "Happy Holidays". I left early and they helped me with my refund with Expedia. Def. not a typical budget hotel experience and I will return. 5 star !!!!!!!
