“Try to escape without indulging in carbs”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2014

This place has incredible sandwiches at reasonable prices. Good luck trying to escape without trying one of the insanely delicious pastries in the front.

“Tightly packed with tons of baked goods!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2014

We really enjoyed visiting Schat's Bakery. There were MANY baked goods for all your carb-loading needs: a variety of breads, breakfast pastries, donuts, muffins, cookies, etc. They also have gelato, a huge selection of teas, and an interior cafe a (which we did not try). Their cheese bread is awesome! But beware, it is always crowded and you'll probably have to wait in a long line.

“Yum yum!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2014

Great bakery! Opens at 6 AM, so i load up with coffee and a 'no no' breakfast treat and hit the road. Love this place!
They've got great sandwiches and soups for lunch too.
Try it...you won't be sorry!

“What a rip off!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2014

When I asked if this bakery was related to the one in Bishop I was told that it was the same family just a different owner. Huge difference! Everything was far more expensive for starters. I bought a pack of six chocolate chip cookies and was horrified to find I had paid $8.59 for the six, even more so when tasting one. It was flat, crisp and nothing like a chocolate chip cookie. Very disappointing.
Similarly the Raspberry Bear Claw pastry had minimal raspberry jam in it. Think the chef just waved the spoon over the pastry. For $2.10 I was unimpressed.
Take the time and drive to Bishop to a really good bakery - Erick Schat's - don't waste your money or time going to the one in Mammoth.

“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2014

Took my family there for the first time. I remember coming here for years and looking forward to quality goodies. Unfortunately my nostalgic memories are a thing if the past. My wife had a sandwich and although good the dining room is in disrepair. It looks like the owners had not put a single dime into the dining area. The chairs are falling apart and the overall feel is just neglect. My daughter had the baked goods. Her lemon donut tasted and looked old (she didn't eat it). In the bakery they have a falling apart ginger bread house that looks for the holidays. Also the jam sampler they have out is filled with mold. I went back a day later and the jam was still out - just neglect on the management. The Mammoth location needs a serious upgrade in order to restore this once great place.
