“Big Mountain, Great Conditions, With A Fatal Flaw”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

We went to mammoth in February 2013 when it had been hit with record snow. The conditions were great, and we hit it mid-week which was fabulous. Generally there were negligible lift lines. Nearly all the trails were open. The setting is beautiful and the main Gondola lift will bring you swiftly to the top of the mountain. There is a huge problem with Mammoth however which makes me hesitant to ever return: At Mammoth, you are forced to listen to loud pop music nearly everywhere. Every lift. Every restaurant, even on the Gondola, where you might expect to have a bit of peace and quiet, you are assaulted by loud pop music which comes from speakers which for some reason have been attached to every Gondola pole.

In the lobby of every on-mountain hotel: Loud music.

On the main part of the mountain, loud pop music is audible from nearly every trail, since it is playing at top volume from the snowboard tricks area.

Mammoth has great potential, but it desperately needs a dose of good taste. Right now it's been destroyed by someone who wants to make it into a shopping mall......

“Mammoth by name and Mammoth by nature.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

Mammoth Mountain offers a huge area for skiing/snowboarding suitable for all levels. It usually has plenty of snow and a good lift system. There are a few restaurants spread over the mountain so you're never too far from one. It is cheaper to ski there if you can buy a season pass. For the past few years we have bought an annual pass which pays for itself if you do more than 7 days of skiing a season. Voluntary Mountain Hosts do a good job of helping the paid workforce team on the mountain. It always brings a smile to peoples faces when Woolley the Mammoth is out and about on the mountain.

“Big Mountain”

Great for all skiers, hill is challenging with plenty of double black, black, blue and green graded slopes. There seems to always be plenty of snow, we had 5m.

“Awesome winter escape!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Love that this mountain is so big that you can ski/board all day and never ride the same slope twice if you choose. Terrain varies from beginner to expert with something for everyone to enjoy.

“Biggest/Best CA Skiing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Just spent 4 days here. Such a large area, cannot get to all the runs. And, so many lifts, there is seldom a line. Staff very friendly/helpful. Especially liked their system for lift tickets (re-loadable card you can keep in your pocket). Amazing amount of lodges/facilities. Definately worth the drive from SoCal.
