“Worldclass skiing/snowboarding with worldclass prices.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

Mammoth is a worldclass ski destination. With over 20 lifts and a gondola, there's something here for every level of skier/snowboarder. The major runs are groomed daily. And every year, there are improvements to lifts and operations.
The ski/board school is very good and organized. It seems like the instructors come from every continent. All are very good teachers with loads of patience. During light periods, you can get a private lesson at a group rate - a good deal!
The high ticket prices are also worldclass. It's a given that ticket prices increase every year even during the past recession. A ticket price of $100/day is getting steep and I don't mean the slopes. There are deals to be had through mammothmountain.com and 3rd parties such as Costco. Youth, juniors, students, and seniors can all get good discounts. However, if you are a middle aged adult, expect to pay full price. The ski school, while good, is also very expensive. At least with the ski school, one can rent gear at a nominal price. And as is typical for mountain resorts, the food is overpriced and underwhelming. But, the food is adequate to give you energy to finish your runs.
In the end you get what you pay for. You'll enjoy your experience at Mammoth in exchange for a lot of dough.

Emily at Eagle Lodge, she was awesome, made our visit just that more memorable. She gave us great mountain information and remembered our names every day. Pretty impressive. Great service and super personality. Thanks Emily you helped make the vacation go smooth.

“Total Jerks, Rude staff that were not helpful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

Go to Heavenly in Tahoe. It's 100 times better and you don't have to deal with the jerks that work in Mammoth. It was my first time going to Mammoth Ski resort. I was unfamiliar with the resort and was asking for help and had to deal with attitude after attitude. Finally I snapped back one time with a witty remark ( not distasteful ) and I was kicked out. Management was just as pathetic as the missing teeth hicks that work there.

“Mid Week January NO CROWDS and Wide Open Powder”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

Our January Mammoth trip was exceptional. Only one big Powder snow fell during out 9 days, but the fluffily powder was fun and made the sloped gentle enough hat we both tried new areas of the Mountain. I enjoyed my longest off-trail ride ever. The best trees and least-tracked areas are by lifts 25 and 9 on the Eagle side of the Mountain. It was COLD (6-20F) but with enough clothing, we were comfortable.
Amazing how few people seem to be there mid week, even in January with a storm. The Mountain is so big, I guess, that everyone scatters out, except for the beginner runs in front of Main Lodge.
