“not worth the $8.00 to get in”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

my friend and I have heard about this for years and were very excitied to go. Now on the plus side the people there are so nice and pleasant. Its basically a high end craft market, which are usually free to get into, the food was substandard, basic flea market food, fries under heat lamps,
bratwurst just ok, my friend didn't like the cheesesteak she had. the beer Yuengling was good.
The location was cool, we found the steelstacks interesting especially with colored lights on them, but outside booths was sparse. The industrial background of the city should be focused on and we could see they are working on some of the buildings but right now not a whole lot there,we passed thru the pretty downtown and wish we had gone there instead!

“Very Disappointed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

I visited Bethlehem PA with the Christkindlmarkt being the draw. This was not at all a German Christmas Market. It was a craft fair and gift sale with just one genuine German vendor. There were plenty of vendors selling stars of Bethlehem, however, most of the vendors were actually selling handcrafted items that you would find at a local craft fair or manufactured items that you would find at your flea market. Since there was an admission charge of $8 I truly did expect to find some unique items. While this was a big disappointment, Bethlehem was a very nice town with lots to do. I will return to Bethelehem but I will advise people not to waste the time or money to visit the Christkindlmarkt.

“Christkindlmarket Bethlehem”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

There is something wrong with having to pay admission ($8) for the opportunity to spend money.

Too bad Christkindlmarket was moved from it's provious location behind Main Street in Bethlehem to the current location - on a macadam parking lot beside the rusting blast furnaces and decaying buildings of the former Bethlehem Steel Corporation. It is not worth the effort to drive from downtown Bethlehem to here.

“Loved it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012 via mobile

We went to the market on a Saturday, it opens at 11. I wish it opened earlier. I found some great holiday gifts, saw some interesting items and great photography. Santa looked a little cheesy but we did not need to visit him. All weekend we heard people complaining about the market, we thought it was worth the trip from NJ.

“Worth it just to visit St. Nick”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

CHristkindlmarkt is a family tradition for us since we moved down here 14 years ago. The BEST part of it and the reason we will still go is to see St. Nick. (the same man has been doing it all these years) My daughter is 16 and she still gets her picture taken with him. For younger children you can secretly tell them your child's name and if you have been there before. IF you've been there before they asked the school they went to so he could incorporate it into the conversation. Or if you told him they weren't behaving he would bring it up. He also keeps a scrapbook of letters given to him. He is a true treasure and worth every penny to get into the place.
I must say it was much better in the old days but we still enjoy going. In previous years the season pass was a better bargain because it was only a few dollars more or they had the buy one get one. They usually had a free puppet show or some entertainment for the kids in addition to the ice sculptures and music by the different groups. Now they only have the ice sculpture, the music and of course the vendors. There is a bus that will take you over to downtown bethlehem but it was much nicer in the old days when you could just walk up the hill to the shops and see the lights. THe vendors crafts can be pricey but they are usually unique. We have one particular jewelry place we usually buy from every year. The young couple makes very unique sterling silver jewelry that we just love. ALthough I didn't pay attention to it this year there is usually a kids area where you can pay a few dollars to have your child do a sand art or some other project. These make great gifts for the grandparents or for yourself. We
