“Fun night out!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2013

This is a great restaurant for a change of pace. Clever idea! You feel like you are back in time as everything is lit by oil lamps, jazz playing, old fashion drinks! The food was delicious! Grilled Mahi Mahi and Butternut Squash ravioli were fabulous! Service was lovely. Good time all around!

“It feels like your own private club”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2013 via mobile

We have eaten here several times - weekdays as well as weekends. The drinks are the star of the show here at first. The menu of twenties cocktails is enormous and the staff are very helpful if you need advice. They advised me on one and frankly it was not to my liking after two sips. Our waitperson saw my reaction and immediately offered to replace it at no charge with another I would select. Do not order a drink that did not exist in the twenties though - you will be met with a blank stare and put in your place( in the most fun way of course!) My personal favorite remains the Sazerac but we always try several! Have a designated driver - you will need one! The menu is not large but so far we have not had a bad meal. I have loved each of mine as have our fellow diners. The portions are perfect and there will be something acceptable to everyone. Appetizer selection is small but each is excellent and not pretentious . The deserts could use a little work but are not poor - just average. They have jazz on Sat nights that is lots of fun. It's a tiny VERY dark intimate place ( duh - its a 1920's speakeasy!) so you may need that flashlight app. If you do not like dark please go somewhere else instead of complaining to the staff. The entrance is not clearly marked in keeping with the theme but they do put out an unobtrusive placard. This is our go to place for a special night!!!

“Like stepping back in time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2013

We really enjoyed going to this restaurant. Walking into the doors was like a time warp back to the early 1900's. The appetizers and entrees were all very good. This was an overall excellent place that we will go back to again. The staff were great and very accommodating.

“Hole in the wall excellence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2013

Dinner at The Bookstore was delicious…Fabulous cocktails for starters (The Arizonan was refreshing, not too sweet, not too potent, just right). Had the meat and Cheese plate for starter and a wonderful chicken and shrimp risotto for dinner. The candlelight atmosphere was perfect for "date night" for my husband and myself. Will definitely go back to this gem on the south side of Bethlehem near Lehigh University.
