“Awesome Historical Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2012

If you are going for a luxury modern hotel, then forget it. If you are going for the adventure of the desert, historical hotel and opera house, then by all means go ahead and reserve. I am just sorry that I didn't have more time to stay. But will be going back again. The rooms are not modern, but CLEAN!!!!!! The staff are soooooo awesome. Mary Lee is amazing with her knowledge of history. We arrived on February 24, 2012 and left on February 26. Not nearly enough time. The cafe had great food. The guys at night in the cafe- Chet and Trevor were very entertaining and fun. All and all it was very down to earth and friendly. If you didn't like it then please don't contaminate the hotel and opera house with your negativity. My friends and I don't want you there. You should go for fun and adventure, not to be and old fuddy duddy.

The place is more than awful. We stayed in January - room was cold, the small heater hardly did anything and made a lot of noise. There was no hot water in the shower. The bed is hard and uncomfortable, with no extra blankets.

We were charged 20% over stated rate at checkout.

Stay away!!

Good location with respect to Death Valley ... and a little spooky in a fun way. Nothing fancy - no TV and wif only in the reception area and in room 2 (where I stayed). Air conditioner/heater is kind of noisy in that room, though. VERY friendly and helpful staff. The State Line Saloon is 7 miles north (along with a small casino), but by all means gas up in Pahrump whether you think you need it or not ... and buy some food there, too, especially if you are heading into Death Valley for the sunrise at Zabriskie (recommended). This time of year you should leave the hotel by 6 to be at Zabriskie at 6:30. It'll take 2 hrs to get across to Scotty's castle area, so plan lots of time for driving - you will stopping to take pics like crazy. DO NOT MISS the Golden Canyon in the afternoon light.

This place is definitely not the newest facility on the block nor does it have state-of-the-art amenities like you'll find in a "big city" resort, but if your looking for a place with history, style and real people then this is where you need to be. The rooms (including plumbing, lighting and heating) are maintained to circa early 1900's standards which means no TV. Want entertainment - hang out with the staff at the lobby or the cafe who are absolutley fantastic people. If you choose the cafe be sure you are hungry - not the most extensive menue but a very delicious home cooked assortment of meals. You won't find a better apple or berry pie anywhere!

Room Tip: Call in advance. Room sizes vary.

Most of the reviews here are right, even the bad ones. It just depends on what you're looking for. Yes, this place is old, creaky, creepy and falling apart. But it's beautiful and the most unique place I've ever stayed. It was kind of smelly and creaky, but it was very warm, the bed and pillows were much more comfortable than the Motel 6 where I stayed the night before. It's true that the rooms have no tv or Internet, But that's why I went to death valley on vacation the first place...to get away from the rest of the world, and this place was amazing for that. The staff were all very friendly and Marta Becket's show was amazing. My 2 days n Death Valley Junction were like 2 days on another planet and that's exactly what I was looking for. I would absolutely stay here again!

This hotel is incredible just for a couple of things: the stunning location, in the middle of the desert, and the owner, which is unique and very kind.

The hotel is poor in furniture, cleanliness, services and all the rest. But if you want to stop near the death valley's entrance, you have to stay at this hotel... Especially for the unique experience of sleeping in the desert!

This so called hotel is a joke. It stinks. The place is a freakin' dump. If you decide to stay, sleep with your clothes on. Don't take your shoes off.

This is not a fair review give a reason why it is so bad so here is my basic response.
We go to extremes to make sure the rooms are clean. Yes the property is very basic accommodations and shows some wear from the ages.
I heard somebody say one day a statement that fit our property well so here goes:
You know they are not the Marriott they just have a heck of a lot more character and ambiance than they do!!
