“Incredible sight!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

If you don't feel like walking, all you have to do is get out of the car. For those of us who have a little more energy, you can either climb the 500' to the bottom of the crater OR hike up the ridge to see Little Ubehebe Crater and then continue around the rim of the big crater (about 1 1/2 miles). It's a difficult climb because of the loose gravel but it's neat to get up that high.

“Loved the crater!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

We arrived at the crater just before sunset and stayed well into the night. It was warm but very windy and the night stars were incredible! We were the only ones there and I was totally swept up in the quiet and the night sky. There is a hike that goes around the crater and although we didn't do it (was getting dark) we met a young man as came off the trail and he said it was awesome and took about 45 minutes (over 700 feet down). Next time for sure... The whole place is eerie and surreal and worth the drive!

“What goes down, must climb back up!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2014

Really lovely and very deep/steep. We saw many people hiking down, but quite a few were struggling on the return trip up. I would recommend this only if you're in really good shape or have a lot of time!

“Great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2014

This was a fun, slippery hike down, but it was not as fun coming back up. There are no bathrooms (or bushes) here, so I would suggest using it before you drove up here -- especially with children. It was VERY windy when we came, but it was very fun. It was quite busy, so if you hate crowds, DON'T come here!

“Be prepared for the winds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2014

I visited this are in the morning, and the winds were very strong. It was a little scary. Otherwise, this place is breathtaking. I was traveling from Nevada and this stop was the beggining of my Death Valley journey, and it marked the entire day. It was my favorite thing in the park.
