“Red Pass is a visual stunner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

I visited Red Pass in August, 2012, getting there by taking the one-way, one-lane Titus Canyon Road via a 4-wheel drive jeep. Nearly all of the 27ish mile drive is gorgeous, with the visual delight peaking- literally - at Red Pass, the highest point on Titus Canyon Road. Fortunately, there is very little traffic on Titus Canyon Road during the hot month of August, so my companion and I were able to park in the little one-car pull-off at the top of the Pass, while taking in the scenery for an hour, without seeing one other vehicle or person. The mountains are a bit stark from this vantage point, as is typical of desert ranges, yet there is so much color among the rock formations that you just stare, mouth agape. And it was kind of mind-boggling to think that in 1926 the road was installed in order to get miners to the nearby Leadfield settlement, which turned out to be a dud, with the community only lasting a year. To borrow a cliche, that's when men were men.

“Spectacular view - worth the breath taking drive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2012

Although some parts of the drive in on the one lane, one way, dirt road is heart stopping, the view at the top is worth it. Driving to and out of Red Pass, take time to stop and look into the valley and the surrounding hillsides. A wide variety of rock color and peak shapes are the reward.
