A Taste of Philly is sure not fancy. Its a small place that serves a great cheese steak. I grew up on Cheese steaks. South Philly, Manayunk, Atlantic City, Ventmnor & Margate all have great steak sandwich joints.
I moved to Florida 15 years ago & have been searching for a good "Philly" Cheese Steak down here ever since. This week, in, of all places Bradenton FL, I finally found one.
They make there own roll & while it's not Sarcone's or Formica's roll it works well. They offer it in 3 sizes, 6", 8" & 10" with various cheeses available(but no wiz). I had mine with Provolone. It was the closest I've had down here to those I used to get at Jim's in South Philly.
They stuff it with sliced Rib Eye & put enough Provolone on it to make it delicious. They usually grill it with onions & hot peppers but I like mine plain so they left those items out. The result was really a taste of Philly that brings back wonderful mouth watering memories.
There are lots of other things on he menu. I plan to go back & sample other items to if I can get around ordering the best cheese steak I've found in South West Florida
Cari Piepiora, the daughter of the original owner is a wonderful restauranteur. She knows her regulars by name, greets them warmly & serves her food perfectly. To me, a newcomer to the place, she made sure I felt welcome & like an important addition to her guests rather than just a new customer. It was a great feeling & one of the things - other Than the cheese steak - that will bring me back to A Taste of Philly whenever I'm in the area.
As I said when I started, YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE FANCY TO BE GOOD!
