I've lived in Bradenton for 21 years. There was a time when this museum offered good bang for the buck but not anymore. The museum exhibits are chock-a-block with dusty pottery, canoes and dioramas telling the story of Florida's early days. I cannot begin to tell you how effective these exhibits are in transporting an ADD child into a state of sleepy boredom.
The Planetarium offers great music shows with all the requisite laser effects and a wonderful sound system but these are held in the evenings and tickets can be purchased separately and at lower cost. The Planetarium burned down some time ago and was rebuilt. The new one is much better than the old.
There's a black hole on exhibit in the aquarium. This black hole sucks in admission fees, donations and cases and cases of Romaine lettuce. The hole's name is Snooty the Manatee. An entire building and operating budget expended on a mammal that one can find gracing our canals in a natural habitat for free. Manatees are not very exciting animals to watch but they are, apparently, very expensive to keep. A better choice for those seeking a look at local maritime species would be Mote Marine in Sarasota.
At $16 a ticket I cannot recommend this attraction to anyone save a first grader seeking a day away from school via a field trip.
