“Best in Dayton”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2013

When we want sushi Akashi is always our first choice in town. The restaurant is warm and welcoming and the staff is always wonderful. We always have the spicy tuna, my favorite then choose others as the mood strikes. They have all been wonderful.

“Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

We wanted sushi for dinner so we went to Akashi. The decor is a bit dated and it is casual or nice casual. The service was excellent; a server was always nearby. The sushi was okay. If you are into fried sushi, I do not recommend this place; they only had one deep fried sushi and didn't offer any nigiri. They offer a lot more than just sushi so we tried their chicken teriyaki platter and Katsu jyu, which was pork on top of rice and onions. The Katsu, along with the miso soup and dumplings where great.

“My Favorite Sushi Joint”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

This is my favorite place to eat sushi. The quality of the food is amazing. I usually get the Firecracker sushi roll, which includes tempura shrimp, cream cheese, asparagus, avocado, cucumber, crab on top with masago... and of course the sauces. I might have missed a few ingredients or thrown an extra one in, but by far, Firecracker is the best!! It is so delicious! You can also get the hand roll for 99cent per person. I definitely recommend it. The soup and salad is amazing and comes with the meal. The salad dressing is an amazing ginger carrot dressing and the soup is a miso soup. I've gotten other rolls and appetizers before, but this is my favorite meal when I go. The other foods that are worth a try are edamame, the Playgirl sushi roll, the Playboy sushi roll, the Playbaby sushi roll (not on the menu), the deep fried tuna roll (really good), and I've also gotten the dynamite sushi roll, but that wasn't my favorite. I like to get green tea on the side. The atmosphere can seem a bit hectic around lunch, but if you get in there right at 11 when they open or around 1 at the end of their lunch rush, it has calmed down considerably. Laura is one of my favorite servers... but they are all very helpful. If you tell them you are military, you can get a discount. Also, Tuesday is buy one roll, get one 50% off. So go check em out! It is my favorite sushi restaurant in Dayton.

“Excellent Sushi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Very fresh fish done in a traditional fashion. I travel frequently and like to have sushi fairly frequently. This is a very good place to have sushi. The service is solid and while the decor is not special it is clean and comfortable. The other Japanese and asian offerings are also good but the star is the sushi.

“OISHII DESU”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

Chinese restaurants crowd the American dining-scape. Asian cuisine in various forms is on the rise. Therefore to find a Japanese restaurant in the Dayton area was a nice surprise. The Akashi Sushi Bar is located near Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Japanese is spoken in the restaurant which made it especially nice for my Japanese houseguests who while not coming to America for Japanese cuisine were nonetheless grateful to take a break from the Standard American Diet and return to their own culinary roots. Eating with hashi (chopsticks) rather than struggling to master American knife-fork-and-spoon dexterity was also welcomed.

The restaurant is clean, the menu varied with traditional Japanese dishes, the food was pronounced delicious (oishii) by my friends, and we left satisfied with the experience and the meal.

The Akashi Sushi Bar’s menu selections are not overly expensive, Japanese tableware (plates, bowls, cups etc.) enhances the dining experience, and the food is sure to satisfy the pickiest of palettes.

When in the northeast sector of Dayton, consider an international dining experience and visit the Akashi Sushi Bar. You too will pronounce the food delicious (Oishii desu) and the visit a satisfying break from the usual American restaurant food fare.
