“Not school trip friendly.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2010

This is a beautiful hotel that would have been perfect for a school group trip, especially with the spacious rooms and kitchenettes. Our reservation was lost, after booking months in advance and pre-paying, and it was a constant battle with the staff, who place a student group on all four floors, making for a supervision nightmare for chaperones. Four other student groups were booked in the hotel at the same time, and constant noise warning memos were issued to all of us, regardless how quiet it was. The customer service manager was the rudest person I have ever dealt with in a service industry. She was rude to me, our students, parents, and even her own manager. This is probably a great hotel for business travelers, but due to the terrible service, it's not so great for school groups. I've never had a worse experience, and we are STILL waiting on a refund for our mixed up reservations SIX MONTHS LATER.

I had a 3-week stay here for business purposes. I was struck with how stylish the hotel was -- they definitely went above and beyond in the decor department. I was pleased to see that the kitchen was equipped with an almost full-sized refrigerator, a dishwasher, and a stove (no oven). Everything worked well. The granite countertops in the kitchen and bathroom really added a touch of class. There was LOTS of storage, and the construction was sturdy.

Downsides: The breakfast menu was just allright. They served cold cereal, oatmeal, boiled eggs, fruit and juice. There were also waffles, but there was no meat, and no scrambled eggs.

The folks at the front desk need a little training in professionalism. They don't seem very willing to help with much of anything. I got the sense they sat down at the desk all day trashing their guests, and their animosity was palpable anytime I had to call down to the front desk. It felt more like a "mom and pop" operation than a corporate one when I had to deal with the staff.

Also, the rooms are not cleaned everyday. They're "refreshed" once or twice a week -- which is probably why they can afford to offer rooms with this many amenities as cheaply as they do. I guess it would have been fine to realize this if it had been explained properly at checkin. It never was. There's a confusing note on their cleaning policy on the refrigerator, but it was not the least bit helpful. Even if I had understood the policy to begin with, I have to say that at least having a made up bed everyday is a definite plus to staying in a hotel for 3 weeks. I think every hotel should offer at least that basic service EVERY DAY. It's not much to ask.

Nevertheless, it was quiet, clean and close to many, many shops and restaurants. I would give it a cautious recommendation.

Had a great stay at this property. It's only one year old and the rooms are beautiful. Plenty of chain restaurants nearby including a Cracker Barrel in front of the hotel. Great value for $95 per night! These TownPlace Hotels and Spring Hill Suites are beautifully designed properties. They blow the doors off the Residence Inns or Embassy Suites!

Like with so many hotels there are good and not so good points about this place. My husband and I stayed here as long term guest while waiting for a transfer and got a good rate for a 1 bedroom suite. ($55 a night) (6 weeks we stayed)

Good Points: The one bedroom suites are like mini apartments. There is a seperate bedroom with queen bed and door that shuts. Has nice closet, dresser and end tables. Bed was pretty comfortable. Both Living Room and Bedroom had flat screen t.v.s. The work desk and space in the living room was great. Lots of space on the desk and cupboard/drawer space. Great lighting in living room for working. Lots of t.v. channel choices. Kitchen was nice with full fridge and freezer, 2 stove top, microwave, diswasher, plate, bowls cooking utensils supplied. Big bathroom, big tub. Nice shower pressure. Couch pulls out into a bed. Management cooked a light meal on tue/wed and usually it was pretty good. (Hamburgers, hot dogs, chili dogs, tacos, beef stew) which was great.

Other good points are the staff.. The front desk staff was very friendly and very helpful. They seemed to like their jobs. Internet was wired or wireless and they have a nice excerise room and laundry room.

Bad Points: They have a decent breakfast for a one or two night stay, but for 6 weeks.. it was the exact same thing every morning. Sausage gravy, cold bisquits, juice, bread, boiled eggs, fruit (that was spoiled and rotten most the time) rice krispies or mini wheat for cereal and make your own waffles. Again, for one or a couple nights, fine, but not long term so much. They could add regular eggs or regular sauage or some thing once in awhile.

For a newer hotel, (a year old).. they are getting dirty, fast. The carpets in the halls and elevators are stained and filthy dirty. They had a leak in the hotel from the tub and had to take apart of my tub to fix it (after only a year?) There were stains in our room too. The whole time we were there, never once did the housekeeping clean our microwave or coffee pot. Eventually we cleaned them ourselves, but that should be apart of housekeeping. Generally every time they cleaned they forgot some thing. (Little things, but always some thing)... forget to put new soap, or forget to replace dish towels, not cleaning the microwave etc. It's the little things that really count. Also.. I had to ask them to change the bed cover and little decoration cover.. when they change sheets they do not change the blankets as well for long term. I sure hope they change the bed covers and little decoration cover for new guest. You have to demand it for yourself if your there awhile. Their snack options that you can buy from the desk are way over priced. Your better off going to walmart down the street and stocking up on your own pops, candy and snacks for normal prices. Also, the couch in the living room, very UMCOMFORTABLE. It's hard and scratchy. Not a couch to sit on for awhile to watch t.v. And if you cook.. there is no place to sit and eat your meal except at the desk or the couch. They have a table that pulls out from under desk but only the desk chair to sit at it. Which didn't help with 2 of us.

Overall, it's a decent place with decent rates. Very quiet. Mostly construction guys staying there, who are quiet and don't bother any thing. Nice Staff. With a few minor adjustments they would go from good to great very easily.

We went on a road trip to the National Air Force Museum and spent the night at the Towne Place Suites. We stayed in a comfortable, clean 2 bedroom suite that suited (no pun intended) our family of 4 quite nicely. The full kitchen and adjacent dining area and living room were spacious for the 4 of us, and the two bedrooms were cozy but not overly cramped. The super friendly employee who greeted us at the front desk and assisted us at checkin, Michelle, was remarkably welcoming and helpful. The staff at other hotels we've recently stayed at could take hospitality lessons from her, wow. Our suite was located at the end of a hallway on the corner of the building with windows in each bedroom and the living room, adding to the atmosphere of comfort and spaciousness. Each bedroom and the living room had a flat screen LCD TV. The wireless internet connectivity was weak in our room, but there also was an Internet dataport that worked fine as an alternative to the WiFi. Although we seemed to have nearby neighbors on our floor, we barely heard them, and had a very restful and relaxing stay. Had we stayed more than 1 night, we could have readily stocked the room's kitchen with groceries from a nearby Super Walmart or Sam's Club and done our own cooking. Instead, we opted to eat dinner at a nearby restaurant, the Outback, one of many restaurants within walking distance or a short drive down the road from the hotel. It was actually difficult to choose a restaurant because there were so many from which to choose. The hotel's included breakfast had a decent variety of choices to suit every member of our family's tastes and diets, including fresh fruit, yogurt, bagels, make your own waffles and toast, cereals, oatmeal, milk, coffee, cranberry, orange and apple juices. We would happily stay again if we're ever in the Dayton area.

We enjoyed our stay at the TownePlace Suites. Although we only stayed one night, this would be an excellent location for a longer stay. The room was set up with unbelievable storage space, a nicely configured workspace, and a kitchenette, and would have been very comfortable for an extended stay. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was fine, with fresh fruit and the usual breakfast food. The hotel has no pool, but it does have an exercise facility. The only downsides we experienced was that the carpet in the public areas could have been cleaner (it was not horrible, but stained a bit), and the hotel is a bit difficult to find. It is located back from the main road, so keep your eyes open. I would definitely stay here again for a short or long stay.

We stayed at the Townplace Suites in Dayton in late August 2008 for two nights the same weekend the previous poster was there. Yes, indeed, there were some youth soccer teams booked at the hotel that weekend. However, we did NOT have the same experience. We did see numerous youngsters in the lobby, outside on the paito, in the halls during our stay. Much of the day they were gone to the soccer fields and many were only visible after dinner. They are exuberant but they were KIDS. Most seemed to be behaving appropriately and their parents were often with them. They were not rowdy, obnoxious or loud. They were not running and shouting in the halls at 9:30PM or later. It was a busy weekend, however, our experience was pleasant and relaxing. The staff were helpful including the housekeeping department. We had a small request and the staff willing took care of it. The hotel is new, very clean and the rooms are extremely nice with modern decor and many conveniences. It is like a home away from home. Rates are great with many discounts available. The kitchen area is terrific with the full refrigerator, cooktop, dishwasher, etc. The new large flat screen tv DOES swivel to whatever direction you want to view it from: the bed, the couch, the work desk. The bathroom is a good size and the closet is huge. Free internet and continental breakfast is included. I think it is always interesting to hear two versions of the same weekend. We have stayed at this hotel three times in the last two months and have found it to be a great experience each time. We have recommended it to a couple of friends who have also stayed at the property recently and had a fantastic experience. We will be returning to the hotel again in the near future.

  • Liked — New, clean hotel with modern decor and amenities
  • Disliked — Nothing, would stay again in a heartbeat!
