On June 10th we reserved one night at the Lodge. What a dissapointment. The setting is beautiful, the lobby and sitting area is warm and cozy, but that's where it stops.
Here is a list of the problems we had with our room #222 and the hotel.
1. 4 dirty glasses in our room. Three had lip marks (actual lipstick) and one had some crud inside the glass.
2. The curtains were hanging by only a couple of rings. I had to stand on a chair by each window to try to rehang the drapes so I could close them. The lining on one set of drapes had separated from the drape itself and was full of holes. They felt as though they had not been cleaned in years. I had to push the chair up against the window sill to keep them closed and used clothespins on the rest to keep the morning light out.
3. There is a window next to the bathroom and I couldn't close the drape tightly and you had to make sure the bathroom door was closed entirely so no one could see inside.
4. Carpet was dirty and worn.
5. Beds were way too soft.
6. Pillowcases were too small for the pillows and part of the pillow was exposed to your head when you slept. I requested additional pillow cases and a top sheet.
7. Bedspread had something on it, wasn't too sure what it was and was glad I didn't posess a blue light.
8. Bathroom floor was dirty.
9. Towels smelled foul.
10. Complimentary coffee was supposed to be provided in the morning from 6AM to 8:30AM but when we went to get some at 7:00 it was all gone and the front desk clerk told us we had to go to the dining room to purchase it. I brought the paper from our room showing the times that were printed down to the front desk and the front desk manager informed the clerk that "yes", coffee should be provided until 8:30am.
11. Dinner in the dining room is very expensive (there is no chicken in the U.S.A. worth $24.00)!
Sheila, the front desk manager came up to our room to look at the glasses and the bedspread and was thoroughly disgusted. She brought a young man with her who was probably in the housekeeping department but he couldn't speak English. She tried to make things right for us but I was so upset it didn't matter.
I wrote a letter to the general manager of the hotel and to my surprise, Vicki, the lodge manager called me the day we came home and apologized and said they were really working on the problems and getting rid of some of the employees who were dropping the ball on many things at the hotel.
Since there are no motels or hotels within 25 miles of the lodge, you are at their mercy.
