“NOT TO BE MISSED!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

This attraction run by the National Park System on the site of the battle of Yorktown is a must for all visitors. A journey into the past narrated by one of the rangers proved to be both informative and entertaining. Even tho the day was hot (in the 90's) and long, 1+ hours, no one complained of the walk and few left the group. We had been told that tour of Yorktown would be about 2 hours but you need many more to fully appreciate the battlefield, the Victory Center, The Farm and the Town. We did not get to see all, due too the heat. To fully appreciate you must take the tour with the Ranger, self guided tour would not give you full appreciation of sites. We will have to return to see the Victory site and farm and the Moore House where surrender was signed. Again this is a Must See and experience.

“Mac the ranger is awesome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

I have been to this park at least four or five times, but the story Ranger Mac told today made the battlefield come alive. In one hour, he managed to entertain me, my two young adult sons and my college history instructor husband -- a difficult audience at best.

“Great site - needs a day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013 via mobile

We got there a little before 10 am and stayed about 5 hours. The drive around was closed due to downed trees from the night before, so we were limited to what we could walk (which with my group's physical issues is minimal). However, the ranger tour gives a great sense of the battle and what happened and why. We did the trolley into town, which was a waste except its the only place to get food. Perhaps exploring the town more could have made it worthwhile but we simply didn't have the time. Also, this park makes a big deal out of the Junior Rangers, including a swearing on ceremony.

“Disappointed!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

Really didn't need to pay to drive around to the battlefields. If you wanted to watch the video or visit the gift shop then you have to pay. I did not buy the cd, and the map was not very easy to follow. Kept getting lost. One part was a one way street through the woods. It was very nice and peaceful. I did learn a lot, but I just thought it would have been different.

“Important site”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

We visited Yorktown battlefield and museum on a hot day in May. The visitor center as informative but minimally staffed. There were only two people at the ticket desk and you had to stand for quite some time to reach them. They were obviously very well informed (especially the park ranger), but since they knew so much, it took them time to tell their stories and made them inaccessible to many people. The film was informative and a good orientation. We bought the CD to play in our car as we drove around the battlefield. It guided us about where to go and what to look at when we got there while also portraying people on both sides of the battles. It was easy to follow and helped us understand the magnitude as well as the intrigue that played out in these trenches and redoubts that look so boring on their face. My only disappointment was the house where the terms of surrender were worked out -- it was closed even though the CD said it was open. Overall, between the CD and signs along the route, it was easy to follow and the information was very accessible. A good day!
