“Staybridge is our go to place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2014

What we mainly like about Staybridge is that they are dog friendly. We travel with our 2 dogs and it's nice to have a nice place to stay. The room was nice. The breakfast is always good and well stocked. The only downside, and we didn't report it, was that none of the light switches in the bedroom and sink area worked. The location of the hotel is good. There's a grocery store, gas station, tire shop(it was needed by us but they were busy and wouldn't help us until the next morning which was too late). There's plenty of spots to eat within 2 blocks, including a pizzeria uno, an Arby's, and a couple of bistro's.

Hotels closer to my destination in Newport News were already sold out. that led me to discover the Staybridge Suites in Yorktown. Good, quiet location. Everything necessary nearby; easy drive to location in the morning. Nice set of amenities typical of Staybridge Suites properties .... nightly reception, good breakfast, large well appointed rooms.

Overall, this hotel was top-notch. The suite with kitchenette and walk-in shower was perfect for our family. The daily breakfast buffet and light dinner during the week was a bonus. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The hotel is in a prefect location for day trips to the historical and beach areas alike. The quality of housekeeping service was somewhat disappointing, but I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: All rooms are suites and the pool in indoors.

The staff and operations manager at the Staybridge Suites Newport News were very unhelpful. I was very disappointed with my treatment and the overall customer service. The Hilton Garden Inn and Candlewood Suites are next door, are cheaper and have more pleasant staff.

Our trip to Newport was to visit our son inthe military. It was a two night stay ane we needed a suite for our needs. Upon check in the smell of the main desk and hallways were pretty bad and as like bad body oder. Thank God the rooms were fresh smelling and we only had to endure this stench when we were on the way out of the building. We spent very little time in the room for anything other than sleep the first night and were in bed early. I woke to find a stopped up toilet bowl that would not flush. When I went to the front dest the friendly girl told me their maintenance man was on his way in and in traffic. I took note of the time 7:30 and how odd it was there was nit a guy on stand by 24/7. At 8:30 I again inquired as to his status and was told he was still on his way. I demanded someone at least bring a plunger and my request was met by a young man that tossed a old plunger in a bag at me and ran away. This was not a messy job at all because it was just clear water. I made an attempt and got no where. Another trip to the front desk was to get a key to another room to use the bathroom. By 9:20 the guy showed up and fixed the issue. The fact they have no one on hand to fix things was annoying to say the least. Ther is no automatic made service which too was extremely annoying. The heater sounded like a train running thru the room and the other refrigerator was noisy as well. Bring a pillow because they give you a 12x12 inch pillow to sleep on. It was like sleeping on a piece of gum. The room was clean and well kept but the other things made the tip unpleasant. If I had the energy I would have made more of a issue of our issues. We didnt take advantage of the free breakfast so I can not comment on that. The kids were treated to candy filled eggs on Easter morning which was a nice touch. Over all a C+ or B- at best.

We chose this hotel because we wanted one near Williamsburg that allowed pets and had an indoor pool and hot tub. This was the one that met those requirements, and so even though it was 20 minutes from Williamsburg, where we'd spend most of our time, we booked it. Definitely not sorry! Having a two-room suite is definitely nice, especially with children of different ages and bedtimes. We didn't have to all be quiet when the little one went to bed. The kitchen was great and had everything we'd need, the beds were comfy, and the shower nice. It would have been nice to have a door to the bathroom in the living area as well, but that wasn't really a problem. They had a nice area outside to take the dog out.

The pool was wonderful! It wasn't anything special, until you got in and realized how warm it was. Seriously, quite possibly the warmest swimming pool I've been in. It was so nice to be able to play around with the kids in there instead of freezing. The hot tub was great for the first couple nights we were there, but then wasn't working for the last night. It was great while we were able to use it though.

Breakfast was good. The eggs weren't the best, but they had an assortment of toppings for them, which was great. Waffles, breads, muffins, a meat, fruit, nothing outside the norm for a hotel like this. It was a nice area to sit in with a huge window overlooking the pond outside.

All of the employees we encountered were friendly. The hotel was very close to a movie theater and some restaurants, and just a short drive from a mall. A nice place for a long or short stay.

did not empty trash. Couch cushions were VERY worn down. I got yelled at by breakfast attendant for not knowing the waffle maker was broken. Appears that family of people that run the hotel hang out there. Printer did not work is Business Center. Sheets smelled
