“Not to Happy Camper”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2014

When we got there they did not have one of our reservations but accomadated us anyway. However when we checked out they said they would not charge us, as we prepaid online when we reserved the two rooms, and would check with them and call me if there was any discrepancy. I received no call and got home to (2) charges on my CC. The rooms were OK but we had no way to reenter our rooms as the keycard machine was down. I don't think we would stay there again.

Where do I start?! Staff was very rude, lost our reservation, then charged us $25 more for a room with 2 beds, Garbage in the hallway was never picked up from the time we arrived until the time we left. Cob webs on the walls, burn mark on the bedspread, stains on the underside of the spread, windows did not close, which was disturbing as our room looked out over a park filled with homeless people. There was mold behind the faucet in the bathroom. Breakfast was dismal to say the least, we couldn't wait to leave. Will NEVER go back, stay away.

This place was probably a nice hotel at one time. Not anymore.

Rude and indifferent staff. No welcome or salutation of any kind upon check in.

Dated room. Old linens and terrible pillows.

Filthy bathroom.

Food discarded in the planter in the hallway and left for the insects.

Horrible breakfast. All processed, unhealthy food, ie. low quality Walmart mini muffins and pastries. Terrible coffee.

Avoid. Ventura is too nice a town to stay in a neglected dump like this.

Room Tip: Just avoid. The place needs a major overhaul and new management and staff.

I really wanted to like this quaint and picturesque hotel but was sorely disappointed!
Advertised complimentary wine and cheese - didn't happen, tv not working, apparently a power outage, but all other electricity was working, wifi only available in the lobby, shabby bed cover - pillowcase on inside out, curtains with a few holes in them, only coffee stocked in the room, which was adequate enough, but all in all I wouldn't return.
The young woman on reception was a delight and extremely helpful. This property has great potential but needs a complete re-vamp - it deserves it!

This property has the potential to very nice. It is quaint and warm upon entering with a lovely fireplace and Spanish style furnishings.

With that being said, there are so many things that could be improved upon. The service is deplorable. You book a fireplace room and are advised that the site you booked on must have an inventory flaw. You notice that your nice flat screen TV has no cable working and if you want to leave you can work it out with the site you booked to get your money back....we prepaid in advance. Shower curtain is moldy and burn holes in the spread of your nonsmoking room. The bed was really hard and uncomfortable.

On the good side, the room was clean and the furnishings quaint in traditional Spanish style. We enjoyed the balcony off our room. Room appeared to have been recently painted. Coffee maker with single brew was nice. Towels were white and fluffy. Breakfast in the atrium was adequate and a pleasant atmosphere. The location is a short walk to downtown and the mission. The price was reasonable.

The Clock Tower Inn could be a wonderful boutique hotel with better service, insuring that things work, some new beds and linens and few little perk ups here and there. It is such a shame. This place could be an awesome place to stay.

Room Tip: If you can swing it, get a room with a fireplace and balcony. Insist on getting what you reserved.

We have an average stay here. The pluses were: the room was clean, the breakfast room was lovely, the teenagers loved the jacuzzi and the staff was friendly. The minuses were: the rooms and furnishes were dated, the staff did not inform us when we made the reservation, nor when we checked in, that neither the tv or the internet worked, and there was extremely limited choice at breakfast( no protein-eggs, yogurt, etc, and no fresh fruit-only orange juice.)

We spent 3 nights here in March. The place has old world charm and lots of atmosphere. It's clean and the rooms are fine. Some have half refrigerators and nice patios with tables and chairs. But the main shortcoming is that the wi fi is weak or not available in many of the rooms. This is really unacceptable nowadays, when so much depends on the internet. Sitting in the lobby is inconvenient. Also, they only stock decaf in the rooms with the single cup coffee maker. The breakfast is limited to cereal, bagels, and some pastries. Fresh fruit and a small microwave would really improve things. Be careful that you get the correct room rate if you book using a third party. Access to many restaurants, shops, and the beach is easy. The homeless people were not a problem, although the parking is a bit weird. Ventura attracts them just like all beach towns. I never felt threatened there. We did notice some noise from go carts nearby at night, but it didn't disturb our sleep. There is a terrible Von's a few blocks away with the longest lines we ever experienced. A wonderful farmers' market happens each Saturday 2 blocks away. Lots to do here and the price was right.
