Been eating here since 1960 or so...came over from Santa Paula. Best "New York Style" pie on the west coast! When Johnny started, it was just him - then Richard came to work with him. Richard passed unexpectedly and really kicked us regulars in the gut - cancer. Now, Johnny's boy must be running it. All ingredients are prep'ed fresh every day, crust dough is every-other as is the sauce...everything is made from scratch right there!.. The cheese is mostly Monteray Jack, with "some" others used.. I use to help Johnny do the prep work sometime or do the shopping for him at Santa Cruz Market, up on the Ave... You can not get a better pie ANYWHERE!.. I have personally traveled from Europe and Alaska to get one of his original Specials!... Call in your order first, or be prepared to stand and visit for over an hour... 5-stars...RIP Richard. de Mel.
