“Wonderful Camping for our Family!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2010

We came in to this camp site with some hesitation but when we got there that went out the window. My husband, myself, and our 3 year old daughter enjoyed our 2 night/3 day stay at Lake Casitas. We stayed in camp site "G21". Sure there were no showers at our site. No problem - we just showered the morning we left and then when we got back. Who cares, its camping!!! We did have port a potties and enclosed port a potties and that was fine! That's all we needed. Just bring toilet covers and you're fine.

Our daughter really enjoyed the playground/park we had in our area. We also walked down to the water and skipped stones onto the water. We enjoyed watching the ducks waddle thru our camp and watching the antics of the squirrels around.

We had a group of 12 people next door to us and 6 people on the other side and we had NO problems or issues. Sites are close but we've seen much closer at other sites.

We also took advantage of the marina. We rented a paddle boat for 1 hour and we had a blast. Its LOTS of work but a fun time for our family. Memories that will last a long time! There are also motor boats & pantoons to rent as well. There is also a bike rental place.

I totally recomment this place. We will be going back - this is our local campground for quick get aways (only a 1.5 hour drive for us!!!).

We loved the 3 days and to nights that our kids, adults and seniors spent at this beautiful and peaceful place. But it will be niecer if you outdate the bathrooms,we had to call for service twice a day,to have them clean the mess on the floor and the toilets and the men restrooms had not light .(wasn't working).THE LOPEZ FAMILY

We just got back from Lake Casitas and what a nightmare it was; maybe it was the site that we were at. We booked last minute and ended up in campground O. It seems like there were no regulations on how many people could be on each camp or how many cars. When we arrived, there were people parked on our site and when we asked them to move...we got attitude. There seems to be no respect for quiet hours...groups around us played music until past midnight the first night. We mentioned it to the ranger but when it happened again the 2nd night, a call had to be made to the ranger station. They responded immediately and asked the group to turn everything off.

Although dogs are welcomed, there was no enforcement of picking up after you pets.

I haven't even started about the bathrooms. On the map, it said that we had bathrooms near by...they weren't bathrooms...they were porta-potties and they were gross! When we arrived on Friday, they were clean but you have 3 porta-potties being shared by 70+ people (since there was no enforcment on how many were allowed on each campsite). Needless to say, by Saturday morning, the porta -potties were unuseable unless you entered with a gas mask.

But if you have an RV, trailer etc...I would suggest booking one of those sited...those sites look really nice and more organized, quiet and peaceful. The lake is beautiful in itself. Maybe we just went on a bad week. But I'm not sure if we will try it again.

For the last 4 years our family has vacationed at Lake Casitas. It is the highlight of our daughters summer vacation and it is the first question when school is out. When are we going there? The waterpark is a great added feature for the kids. Concerning the "bees" the whole area throughout there has that problem not just the campground but also the homes through Ojai. So if you have issues with the "bees" you need to buy traps before you come. I recommend making reservation way ahead of time, they fill up fast. We can't wait to go there this year!!!!

We make Lake Casitas a regular destination for local entertainment. Great fishing, great variety of campsites, great jumping off point for hiking trails along the Sespe. The frisbee golf-course is world class! Thankfully the bees aren't anywhere in sight this year, apparently California wildfires were to blame for an unusually large population of bees moving into the area in 2008.

Lake Casitas has a great waterpark and great activities for the kids. It would be the IDEAL place to go for a family camping trip except for the disgusting bathrooms and horrible hornet infestation. These 2 problems earn the whole campground an overall rating of TERRIBLE!

Fix the bathrooms Lake Casitas! We shouldn't wake up every day to an overflowing toilet, TP piled next to the toilets, human waste flowing down the sidewalks, and no TP. Fix the problem!!

Do something about that hornet problem Lake Casitas! We should be able to cook a meal without being bombarded by hundreds (and I mean hundreds) of hornets. We should be able to eat lunch at the waterpark without dozens of hornets landing on our food. We shouldn't have to worry about being stung any time food is around. Kids were crying at the campsite next to us. Sure you "let" us purchase $15 hornet traps at your stores. But we shouldn't have to. Fix the problem!!

For the past 5 years, my family has made it a yearly tradition to go once a year in the Summertime to Lake Casitas. It is our favorite place to camp and we usually stay for a couple of days since the drive is more than 3 hours one way. We love the large, shady campsites, the waterpark, the fishing, the bike riding, the parks, the views. Make sure you reserve as early as Jan. for the summer. My sister has tried for 2 years to reserve and camp with us but the campground is already booked. As for us, we are already scheduled to go back in July, 2008. We can't wait.
