Our family stayed here for two weeks combined checking in about three times to give this motel an honest good try because the first time we had the "remodeled" room. We traveled to enough motels to not really care about the "decor"--we are just happy to stay in a room that has a hot shower and clean linens when on business trips. Let me tell you how our stay went with our observations but first I want to say their homepage pictures of the rooms are very deceptive. NOT ALL rooms are remodeled--we came across a fully remodeled room, semi-remodeled room, and rooms desperately needing repairs (dirty doors that I couldn't wash down with Lysol, kitchen grease splattered everywhere because the maid/management doesn't clean, etc. Some remodeled rooms are still lacking in repairs--which I will get to later. So there are a number of rooms that are remodeled like the pictures, have flat TVs and some rooms do not. Also, the rooms facing Thompson Blvd. are extremely noisy in the mornings (6AM on), regardless of what the manager says. That being said, here is what we liked and disliked:
-Free wi-fi, good signal. Sometimes we had to take the laptop down to the office to get the signal
-Remodeled rooms have a nice big flat screen TV. Free HBO and other movie channels.
-Fridge and microwave in room
-Some rooms have very clean carpets and sheets.
-Talk with the management for a weekly rate.
-Rooms in the back of the motel are quiet from morning traffic noise.
-All linens are washed and prepared by an outside contracted linen service. The housekeeping only does the changing of linens and vaccuming, taking out trash.
-The management is very deceptive. Second time we checked in, he said there were two queen beds but it was actually two full beds. Or the windows are all STC rated so we won't hear outside noise but we heard tons of traffic noise from morning rush hour that was our "alarm." Or how he tried to make us pay two nights before moving us into a weekly rated room so we can pay an extra night when the room was actually empty.
Whatever the management says, ask several times before agreeing because they almost always went back on their word the next day as if you didn't understand them.
-The office smelled like curry but here's the catcher: several times they used the very spicy chili pepper in their cooking and it was burning my nose and eyes!
-They have rooms that seemed to be smoking rooms, or still are. The kitchenette we got for the week was full of cigarette smoke and we weren't told of this. I was upset because I had two younglings with us.
-Housekeeping is very LAZY. She doesn't clean the fridge or the microwave. Nor she dusts much. All she cared about was changing the sheets and cleaning the counter tops. In fact, the pillowcases were on inside out and the bathroom floor wasn't even mopped.
-The sheets and towels are indeed old. There are cigarette burns. I ended up using my own towel because the towel was so old that lint balls were clinging to my wet hair and I didn't want to show that for my business meeting. So it took me longer to get ready to see clients which didn't make me a happy camper.
-Not very economical for staying one night. We realized that he was charging us too much compared to another motel down the street. Again, the deception. So ask, ask, ask!
-In the back rooms we heard people actually walking on the main walkway when they were checking out or the maid carts/luggages being rolled.
-Some rooms don't have a chair and a desk, which was somewhat important for us for our computer/printer need so ask to make sure the room has one. Or they will give you another room that has one most likely for a fee increase, which happened to us twice. But remember, other motels in the area all have at least one chair and a small desk included in every room so decide if that's really important.
-Not enough parking. We had to park out on the street several times because there is half the number of parking spots compared to the rooms that are there. I even saw big trucks having to take up 1.5 spaces because the parking space is so tight in the back.
-There is a small apartment in the back that is fenced but they can see pretty much everything inside the motel room once the door is opened. One particular unit I remember was always out drinking at night time and making cat calls.
-The walls are very thin, I heard almost everything from the housekeeping cleaning to the microwave door closing. I think Motel6 had better walls than this place.
If you are in for a night of stay, this motel isn't bad if you can afford the $60 to $70 they're going to make up the price for. Think before staying here on extended stays.
