“Good Historic hotel, a feeling of really being in El Paso”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2014 via mobile

An good hotel, that was once special, but clean and very large rooms with comfortable beds.
We preferred to stay here rather than a chain to get the feeling of the town. The dome bar still exists and has a little weekday crowd as we passed by.
The service was friendly. We had a little problem in the room with a water spigot and it was fixed immediately.

Camino Real located in the heart of El Paso's downtown is a beautiful hotel from the outside and pretty cool inside, The front desk was polite and helpful . But the rooms were just so-so. You would expect something really special for the price. The bathroom smelled like mold and the tile and tub were very old and worn. Beds were pretty comfortable ,linens could have been nicer also.
over all a nice hotel if you want to be downtown and close to the attractions and shops.

note : don't look like a tourist when walking around and keep your bags close.

Room Tip: Dont get a room towards the street .windows are thin and you will hear the sirens of police cars and...

This is my favorite hotel in El Paso. It's both historic and classy. There may not be flat-screen hotels in every room but it makes up for that in character. I especially loved the bar, which has a unique Tiffany stained glass dome. The breakfast buffet is included with the price of the room and the food and service were both excellent. The hotel is in walking distance to bars and other attractions in the downtown area. It's all a safe area.

Room Tip: Check out the stained glass dome in the hotel bar.

Stayed here for business and was impressed with the location and reasonable rate.

The historical hotel is a bit dated but has character and charm.

Service was ok at the front desk but I think the ladies didn't speak great English and they also were training a new employee.

Overall a great spot for a business traveler. Would return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this historic treasure. It is a beautiful building. We had a very nice room. The hotel could use some updating to help it be as stately as it deserves. We had some issues with air conditioning as well but none the less a love stay and the bed was very comfy.

I am torn between giving this historical a rating of average and very good. I love the character of this old historical hotel. The room on the 7th floor was clean and had a great view of the city into Mexico. The Dome room was really spectacular. I good see this being quite the place in its day.
Unfortunately coming mid week meant the whole area surrounding was quiet and closed up. So we were left to eat at the restaurant. The food was average. The ambience was bad with no music and we were only one of two tables in the big restaurant. Our waiter was nice but new to the area. He was also too talkative (probably given to not having anyone in the restaurant). At the same time he was rushing us by trying to collect our plates too early. Strange. The desk clerk that checked us in was nice, but when I had asked for a recommendation for dinner was pretty unhelpful.
So as I read previous comments I can see other people complained about the lack of service. I think it could be improved upon. We did walk into the amazing dome room as we thought of having a drink and we were taking some pictures. The bar tender had no one else in the room and was on the phone. She didn't acknowledge as we walked in and so we walked right through. It wouldn't have taken much for us to stay and have a drink. Their loss.

Room Tip: We heard a great ghost story about the original owner's daughter being left at the alter and com...

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your review. We truly appreciate your honesty. We are glad you enjoyed our Tiffany stained glass at the Dome Bar, it was built in 1912 and has seen the likes of many legends that have waled in to our Hotel, Pancho Villa, Amelia Earhart, Eleanor Roosevelt, Bob Dylan, U.S President Taft, Hoover, Nixon and Bush. In regards to the lack of customer service have been training and working with our staff polishing our service skills.
I would like to personally invite you back to stay with us and exceed your expectations with the excellent services you should expect from a Camino Real Hotel.

This is a charming hotel in downtown El Paso. I'm sure that it was gorgeous when it first opened. It now seems quite dated but still has character. The dome bar is beautiful but the drinks are overpriced. Our room had a view of Juarez. Ths room was clean but the bed was quite hard and the deadbolt didn't work. Still had a nice stay and would consider it again if the price was right.
