This restaurant is the absolute gem of El Paso. Located in downtown, the restaurant welcomes you with subdued lighting, tasteful accents, a beautiful bar, and great food. On a Friday night we found our table and our ears were entertained with the light jazz sounds of a 3 piece band.
To start off, the wine list is extensive. You will definitely find anything you like. A major plus is the ability to order half bottles, so compromise is easy! If you don't know what you want to savor that evening, the restaurant does have a resident wine guy who can help you along.
For an appetizer, we ordered the calamari. Cooked just right both fried and sauteed, we were both in heaven. The sauce that the calamari is paired with is amazing. The sweet and sour flavors blend together quite nicely and are a treat to the palate.
Before our entrees, we ordered the signature soup - cream of green chile. Amazing. The soup is so smooth and it finishes with a nice bite. You'll want to order another cup and forget about your entree!
For our main courses, I ordered the tenderloin with a type of scalloped potatoes and sauteed spinach. All were prepared just right, with the potatoes being the highlight of the dish. With how this dish was priced, I expected more from the steak, but I realize that this is not your normal "steak house". My wife ordered the ahi tuna served over a crab cake and paired with teriyaki glazed vegetables. It was all well prepared and flavored very well.
By the time dessert came around, we were both stuffed! Next time we'll have to pace ourselves a little better and try a sweet treat.
You will definitely enjoy this restaurant. Its a great break from everything else you'll find in this city. One note for those who are cost concious....you'll pay for everything you get. For me, the value is so worth it.
