“If you like craft beers, this is the place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

My husband and I enjoy craft beers and we were recently visiting the El Paso area. We found the Hoppy Monk, this is a cool bar with over 50 beers on tap. There was a great selection, they also have an outdoor patio seating area. We didn't eat here, but I saw others eating so they do have food.

“Beer is great, but that's it.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

First, to get it out of the way: the beer is what this place is about. Even if one of my choices was unavailable, there were plenty of others to fall back to. A selection like this is hard to find. A true beer lover's delight.

But that's about it.

I don't recommend eating here. The menu looks impressive, but again, many items were unavailable - and those that we did have were disappointing. The Trappist Mushrooms had 1 of the 3 advertised varieties, and were almost inedibly greasy; the pizza tasted like it'd come from the supermarket freezer; and the spinach salad was really quite boring. I'd have liked to have tried a burger, but there was that whole "not available" thing.

And the so-called service left a LOT to be desired. The single waiter was overloaded, and couldn't get to our table. I tried to order our food at the bar, but was... unsuccessful. And this was on a Monday.

So my advice: if you're a beer connoisseur, definitely stop by here for a couple. But make sure you sit at the bar (where the service looked to be halfway decent), and go somewhere else for food.

“Fantastic menu”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

Forget the humongous beer menu - this place has a great food menu! The chef is very conscious about the quality of ingredients he uses - you won't find high fructose corn syrup, MSG, or other junk ingredients here!! We always ask about these things at restaurants & it's refreshing to come to a spot where we don't have to worry about it! Thank you Hoppy Monk!

“Go for the beer, enjoy the burgers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

Well, the draft beer selection cannot be beat anywhere that I know of (including some places in LA), and the burgers are superb - one with blue cheese and pears on it with walnut aioli...yum...with sweet potato fries. The 'mac and cheese' side is excellent too, not the fake yellow stuff from a box some of us may remember. The burgers were not humungous (good) and nicely charbroiled. Overall, great place. One thing, not a lot of light outside, we drove past it in the dark worried it wasn't open, then realized there were cars in the lot and it was indeed open.
