I booked the private room for my rehearsal dinner in Jan. I first spoke with who I believed to be the manager or event coordinater in Oct in person. I called the individual two more times with a couple of questions and confirmed the time and date each time. The dinner was scheduled for a Friday and I again called the Weds prior to confirm. I also told them I was unsure how much food we would need but told them we had about 20 people. They said it was no problem and if we needed more they could always add more quickly. This is BBQ so they have most of it prepared already. I also asked if they would have someone around who could refill drinks for us and they said yes. Mind you, I even told them I had no problem paying for any additional costs involved. Well, to my horror, when we got there shortly after the agreed upon time to arrive, there was no food ready and no one around to assist. I went to the front counter to inquire and the lady just looked at me and told me that they just weren't prepared for a party. I don't know if she was surprised we were there or what. I told her I spoke to manager/event coordinator and he assured me everything would be fine and handled as requested. She told me that she didn't have anyone that could assist in drinks. They did manage to get some food out to the buffet area after about 15 minutes. Still no drinks. I felt like a real jerk in front of my future family. So I went to the front counter and ordered three pitchers of beer, a pitcher of tea, and a pitcher of water. The employees then filled the pitchers and set them on the front counter where I had to carry them individually to the back room alone. No one offered to help me carry them. By the time I got all the pitchers to the back, people had drank two pitchers of beer. So I took them back to the front for more. And the endless cycle began. Finally, after many trips back and forth, I decided to make a plate and eat. This was, afterall, my rehearsal dinner. Of the three meats ordered, there was only one left. No sides were left. While I did have some people from my party offer to help me, I refused. These were my guest and I wasn't having them working. Unfortunately, this meant that I did not get to spend much time with my family and friends during this entire visit. I also had to stop and get some food on the way home since I did not get to eat much there. I started to voice my complaints to the lady who seemed to be in charge but this didn't seem to make much of a difference to her. The entire night was a big disappointment and left me feeling embarrassed in front of my friends and family.
That said, I have eaten at Whole Hog many times before and the food is excellent. I just wouldn't recommend having a party there.
