This is a nice, basic, clean hotel. I paid about $160 plus tax for a stay in late May. After writing this review, I realized it seems like I have an axe to grind. I don't have any real complaints. Nothing bad happened on my stay, and it was pleasant enough. I just felt a little let down after seeing what this property had to offer (or didn't offer) for the price.
The Peabody with the famous ducks was offering a similar rate on the day I stayed. I chose this property instead because of all the rave reviews. Now I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. This is decent hotel for an overnight stay and convenient to downtown. However, it doesn't really offer many amenitites.
There is no room service, but you can order from the restaurant next door. The food is good, but it is delivered in take out containers, and you're eating off cardboard or aluminum foil which is what the place across the street used last night to package my dinner. It did come over fairly warm, if not hot, and it tasted good. When I ordered from the restaurant across the street (Boscos), they forgot part of my order, but came right back a few minutes later to bring the forgotten item. It only took about 20 minutes for them to deliver my order. Many times, I've had a long day and want to relax with a nice room service meal. My only complaint is that I don't really want to feel like I'm having takeout in my room. I much prefer to feel like I'm eating at home off plates which is not the case when you're eating off of plastic or cardboard.
As one reviewer said, the fitness room is small. I found it inadequate. There is a very old elliptical machine which I think is about 15 years old. I finally got it working but it was a chore just to get my workout started. Then it wasn't really giving me much of a workout. There are also two treadmills, and a recumbent bicycle. I tried the bicycle, and it was OK but not great. There are folks like me who don't or can't use treadmills but like to exercise standing up. Not every place will have ellipticals or stair steppers, but if they do, they need to be working and in good condition, not 15 or 20 years old.
When I came in late last night, the hotel seemed quiet, but in the morning I could definitely hear noise from rooms next door and out in the hallway. I didn't hear any noise from above me. I think if someone was playing loud music next to you that you would hear it.
The windows in the room cannot be opened. That's obviously to cut down on heating/cooling bills during the summer to prevent folks from opening their windows. I much prefer having a choice about whether to open my window. I prefer fresh air, even warm fresh air to constant air conditioned and recycled air. When I visited, the outside temperature was only about 72 degrees, so having a window open wouldn't be a problem.
Parking is behind the hotel. It's not really obvious that the garage is used by the hotel, but they will let you know if you call. There is no sign indicating it is public parking and for use by Courtyard. There was no doorman or valet at the front door. They probably don't get enough traffic to have one. Most people just park in the garage and walk down a short corridor into the building. The door for the hotel was hard to find, and not obvious, because you walk into what looks like an office building. There is a very small sign on the door, but nothing when you walk in that screams out that you are going to a hotel. The person walking behind me had to point it out. Obviously they noticed it but I didn't.
If I were in the area again I would probably stay at a different property. This one is clean, safe and nice, but I don't think it gives much value for the price range it's in. This hotel is convenient to downtown. That's the one positive thing I could note about it.
