“If you love history, this is a great museum, and it's even free!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2011

I loved everything about this museum, not the least of which that it was free. For a family of five on vacation, things can really add up so we appreciate opportunities like this when they come along! Housed in a beautiful, charming old historic building, loads of Arkansas history, includes exhibits on the governors, first ladies, civil war (lots of confederate civil war history as well as veterans gatherings etc.) the antebellum south, civil rights movement, and interesting to me a display on the reputation of Arkansas as hillbilly-moonshine backwoods country and overcoming that in modern times, which I didn't even think about prior, but I guess when you think about it is true! The State has done a really nice job restoring and maintaing this beautiful old building - you can see where the old courtrooms and senate chambers were and look out over the river through the old windows...just a really nice way to spend a few hours in the historic part of Little Rock.

“Very Interesting Museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2011

If you are interested in Arkansas history, this is a great stop. Close to downtown hotels and other attractions. Probably not an interesting stop for children or teenagers. If you like history, you will enjoy this place.

“Don't Miss This Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2010

The staff of The Old State House was outstanding. They provide a free tour. The guide was funny and really knew the history and culture of Arkansas. It takes about an hour and is well worth the time.

“Nice display of Arkansas history (and it's free!)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2010

The Old State House makes for both an educational stop, as well as a scenic one. Inside one will find various displays of Arkansas history, along with the large rooms that the legislators used. One of these rooms has been restored. Also included is a small kids area where they can dress up in various outfits.

The museum is located on the western end of Little Rock's riverwalk (though the riverwalk is a bit of a walk to get to behind the structure). It's free, and well worth a stop while in Little Rock.

“Worth a visit for local history.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2007

The political exhibits were not particularly interesting, but the quilt exhibit ("A Piece of My Soul") was incredibly moving. Combining the quilts with period rooms of furniture that situate the quilts in the setting in which they were used, and including paintings of people picking cotton and making quilts made it a poignantlly contextualized experience.
