“Big shock!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2011 via mobile

Stayed here in part of big road trip, and were exhausted on arrival. Check in was great by the girl looking after us, I was amused by the other check in girl, who seemed to have little understanding of how to talk to a guest. Our lady recognised my husbands priority club status whereas the girl didn't ask the poor chap she was checking in, our girl must have noticed and recognised it.
Still I thought she is probably being trained.

We were given a room on other side of highway so it would be quieter.
It was very small, and the bathroom smelt a little musky.
But seemed ok for our needs of crashing out for one night.

When the covers were pulled down however the bed looked unmade properly, all creased, and the mattress cover wrinkled.
We thought was just bad housekeeping, and were tired, so pulled it neat and went to bed.

The BIG SHOCK was in the morning, my husband found a grubby sock in the bottom of the bed!!! OMG!! So it wasn't just badly made bed, were these dirty sheets? Had someone actually slept here and the beds roughly re made!!
I felt sick!! Disgusted!!

To top off the bill pushed under the door showed a charge for room, although we asked to pay with
priority points.

So off to desk we went, and spoke to Dawn Gronowski the duty manager.
She quickly addressed the problem of the bill, saying the girl on night shift didn't know how to do a points paid bill.
Ok. Should she not be taught before left unsupervised? Just a thought.

When we showed her the sock and explained she looked mortified and as upset as us and straight away gave us assurance she would deal with it.

We went to breakfast. And have to say the cooked breakfast was turned away by my husband - he said the so called eggs ( they are reconstituted) were so bad even even he wouldn't eat it! I'm the one who can't eat rubbish food, but he said was inedible!
The woman looking after the breakfasts was very unhappy
looking and seemed constantly to be trying to fill up the quickly emptying trays. Still, it had a pancake machine which keeps me amused for seconds!!

Back to desk at checkout and Dawn was true to her word.
She had spoken with priority club and we had the night free, plus points. And had spoken to housekeeping who said the sock must have been caught up in the washing with static.
Hmmmm... So how come it wasn't noticed when putting on the bed? And why was it dirty?
More to the point IF that were true, how come the beds looked unmade.

Dawn was very gracious and apologetic, she gave us extra points on top and was, along with the smiley girl with the shorter fair hair, who checked us in, the only redeeming feature of the hotel!

Cedar City is mostly a place to stop on a road trip (i.e. one night). This hotel is clean, new, and well managed. A simple, but good buffet breakfast is included. It's fairly expensive for what you get and there is a $15 pet fee, but overally it is nice. There is a tiny gym. There are no restaurants in walking distance, but on the other side of the highway, there are several restaurants, like Chili's. Nothing great, but reliably good.

I didn't expect much from Cedar City, Utah, other than it being a convenient stop on my long road trip across the US. But, I was in for a very nice surprise. This Holiday Inn was warmly welcoming, with pleasant and extremely helpful front desk staff, a relaxing, spotlessly clean indoor swimming pool and spa, a quiet, clean room and an adequate, if not extensive breakfast selection that was included in the price. My accommodation requests were met very well.

My husband and I took a 3300 mile road trip with our new dog--hence needed dog friendly hotels. This hotel was our first stop. The front desk made us feel very welcome from the minute we walked through the door. I had been in our room for about 20 minutes when Amber called to make sure we were happy with our room and asked if she could do anything for us. The room was spacious and spotless. We were only there for one night,, but would not hesitate to stay there again-- with or without our dog.

Room Tip: If you have a dog, ask for a room at the end of the hall closest to the grass area.

The front desk people were very nice, both in the morning and late at night. The free breakfast wasn't my kind of food, but the hot water was blazing hot and made a fine instant coffee in our room. We had the double queen suite and it was pretty darn small-- not really 2 rooms, but it had a sweet tiny couch, coffee table and wee dining table for two with a lamp. Would have easily it a third person. Very sweet and complete. Also a fridge and microwave, which I love having for storing leftover dinner for a late snack. Recommended.

The Holiday Inn Express doesn't deserve great platitudes, nor censure. It delivers what is expected from a 2-3 star hotel, which is all that should be expected from this level of hotel.

Check-in was quick and efficient. Personnel at the front desk were helpful and welcoming.

Breakfast was decent, with a good selection of protein (bacon and eggs). However, the pre-made egg omelets (folded eggs with some suspect cheese in the middle) were quite rubbery. Other than that, the normal fare of sweet rolls, cereals and juices was available. The breakfast room had no available tables when we got there, but moving out to the lobby was no problem.

The large room was clean, and the king size bed was okay. Maybe on the hard side, but not uncomfortably so. "Hard" is maybe too strong of a word. It just wasn't the most comfortable mattress I've slept on in a hotel, but definitely not the hardest.

We didn’t use the pool or hot tub, so I have no idea on those.

The room did have a slight mildew smell, which we traced to the shower curtain. The smell, however, was not strong enough to ruin our trip. And since we were there only one night, there was little reason to contact maintenance.

Overall, a good hotel that met our expectations.
