We are usually pretty nomadic while traveling...don't want to tie ourselves down to one area in case we want to change our plans. The last night of our Utah trip we decided to drive the Scenic Byway through Cedar Breaks National Monument and Brian Head Ski Resort to see some snow. We made it to Cedar City knowing we wanted to check out the Kolob Canyon the next day, stopped at McDonald's, logged on to their free wireless internet and started to call around (we called the top tripadvisor hotels in Cedar City). Abbey Inn turned out to be the better deal and it was right across McDonald's!
We splurged the night before on our cabin and dinner at the Zion Mountain Ranch so we knew we wanted something clean and reasonable. It was too late in the evening to search for a place on airbnb.com. Abbey Inn had lots of rooms available. $78 for a decent sized room with a King size bed, flat screen TV, HBO and a bunch of other channels included, mini fridge, microwave oven, two chairs, a small table, a dresser, a desk, two night stands and a bench looking thing to put our suitcases on. The shower was clean and well stocked. Nothing to write home about though. The heater worked but it was noisy. The bed was comfy, clean and warm. There are a lot of restaurants and the gal at the front desk gave us a map of all the restaurants and made some great recommendations. Abbey Inn is close to the I-15.
Our room included a full breakfast and use of the pool and Jacuzzi. It was too cold for us to walk to the jacuzzi. Our room was at the end of the second floor near the elevator...convenient. There was a school group (high schoolers) so breakfast was noisy and there was a line for the food. You walk to a building behind the Inn for breakfast. It's nicely set up for a free full breakfast. It's a buffet and there's a waffle maker available with ready made waffle mix. We didn't try it. They had freshly made scrambled eggs (you had to season it yourself), sausage, 3 different breads to choose from for toasting including a bagel, biscuits with white gravy and honey (your choice), cereals, oatmeal which wasn't cooked enough so we popped it in the microwave oven. There was also apple juice, orange juice, hot water for hot chocolate and coffee available.
Free parking here and free wireless wifi in the rooms. We were allowed an extra hour for check out with no additional charge.
We were there during their off season...not sure what the room rates are during their high season.
