My first time in the US of A! I expected so much out of NYC and got more than I hoped for. Everything was 10 000 times bigger, more beautiful than in my wildest dreams! I had been told that New Yorkers were not too endearing, pretty cold and uncaring. I found them warm hearted, most helpful as well as ever so endearing! The Empire State Building took my breath away as did just about everything in Manhattan. Boy I am so hooked on NYC now! Then a trip to New Jersey where I found 'The' shop selling my 'Can never be found CD' Well they had it! Brooklyn and Queens rock as for the Bronx zoo WOW! No zoo could compare to this one! At last! A zoo where animals are not caged! Have more than concrete! And the glass wall separating you from the tiger? Unbelievable. I shopped til i dropped! Macey's!!! O my!!! Show your passport (Not a US citizen) And they give you 11% discount on your shopping and!!! Shop on a Thursday in NYC and get all your goods tax free + the 11% discount? I felt so frustrated? My eyes weren't big enough to take it all! Ferry to the statue of Liberty and Ellis island took me on a trip I'll never forget. The great dame statue of Liberty is just so amazing! Everywhere I went I met people, talked to them, rather they talked to me watching me taking pics as if there was no tomorrow, moan how awesome it was, no way would my pics give such an amazing place any justice! I was practically crying as I left and know what? I can't wait to go back! Freedom Tower will be ready in 2010. I'm gonna be there!!!

My wife and I decided to spend our 43rd anniv. in mid-town
on west side of Manhattan. Had spent 2 days here 2 yrs ago and knew we missed so much so tried to cram a lot in this trip.
There's just too much to do for a week but, did the shows (2)
though approx 40+ theaters in action while we were there!
Food, everywhere! Hot dog stands, pizza slices, outstanding restuarants, deli's that are nothing like we have on west coast.
We're in our late 60's and never felt threatened or were we hassled. Can't say the same of our city, San Francisco.
Cab drivers are not surly or not able to speak English. The worst cab driver we encountered was on our return from NYC at SFO where driver was obnoxious!!!
Don't know what else to add since there is so much, and have to go back to see what we missed. Just recommend going once,
especially if you're from Wes Coast and never been there.
Go! Young or old, you'll love it!

This hotel is in a very good lower midtown Manhatten location. One block from the Empire State Building and 1 block from the subway station. The hotel is older and the rooms are small, but an ample breakfast is included daily (hard boiled eggs, yogurt, bagels, sweet rolls, cereal, beverages, etc.) Rooms are clean. There is a rooftop bar. The management is very responsive to any issues. The price is also great for that area - lower $200's.

i,ve been to new york city twice now and going to return soon i love it there very good shopping and lots to do you can never get bored because there's so much to do. the first time i went was for new years 2002 very good time to go. in times square and all the intertainment very good. then i went january 2006. me and my mum went mad we went every where and did every thing etc went cinama, theater, madame tuuaudes, walked over brooklyn bridge, central park and the zoo in there and ice skating there, we went to statue of liberty, empire state building, ground zero (which is a very sad place) and many many more places and things which would go on for ever. so i advise any one who is planing a holiday to go to new york and see it all for yourself you won't be disapointed.

Do you want to get away from the hustle of the city, do you like to walk, two visits ago just prior to going to Manhattan I discovered a site that shows doing a Three Bridge walk starting in Williamsburg & ending up back on the island from Brooklyn Bridge.

Take a subway downtown & got off nr the Manhattan side of the Williamsburg bridge. Locate the subway to Williamsburg, just around the corner on Delancy Street.

Get the subway to the first stop in Williamsburg, locate the pedestrian walkway, then start a really pleasant walk back across the bridge, and ended up right back at the subway station, on Delancy Street, keep walking until you do a left turn on to Bowery.

Continue along Bowery until you hit China Town & the entrance to the Manhattan Bridge, over the bridge, when you get to Brooklyn, come off a go back on yourself a little (crossing Pearl Street) then around the corner & you are looking at The Brooklyn Bridge.

Walk along the side of the roadway until you get to the pedestrian entrance. (at this point you could do a slight detour either along Cadman Plaza or straight out along Clark street to the Brooklyn Esplanade).

Then it's a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan & City Hall. If you want either take a subway back uptown, or walk back up to Midtown, it can take about three hours at a leisurely pace and it was about 13 miles.

The first two bridges are not that good for unhindered photographs, but you do get some good views back on to Manhattan.

The Brooklyn bridge is by far the best for views of Manhattan and Liberty Island.

If that's too much of a walk why not try just the Manhattan & Brooklyn, or even hop on a subway to Brooklyn & then walk across the bridge, quite a short.

Another walk you can do, is to get the cable car to Roosevelt Island, walk up the island across the Roosevelt Bridge into Queens & then back across the Queensboro Bridge, again these bridges are not so good for photographs but it a nice little walk & does not take too long & you can spend some time walking out to the lighthouse on Roosevelt if you want.

Another good walk is the obvious Central Park, you can spend hours in there away from the noise & the crowds.

Try walking down some or all of the Hudson River, along the Marina, around Battery Park & round to Pier 17 by the Brooklyn Bridge.

How about a subway to Coney Island & walk the boardwalk to the other end of Brighton Beach.

There really are lots of places you can walk to see the many sights & get away from the crowds, and when you are in Manhattan you never feel unsafe.

In New York, there is so much to see & do
